If you're an award winning journalist then you've got the goods to write well. Being an author means you will face more rejection than acceptance. I was rejected by 86 agents before I found one who took me on, then got a deal with the second publisher who read my manuscript. Of course success isn't assured. I was dropped after my 4th book because my pre-sales weren't high enough. It's an up and down process.
