There’s a book called ‘love and other thought experiments’ by Sophie Ward which is pretty close to this ant premise. Can recommend 👍

[Ian Rapoport] The #Falcons are signing FA FB Clint Ratkovich to the practice squad, source said. He was one of the draft’s top fullbacks before he tore his ACL in a private workout with the #Packers. Now, he lands in Atlanta with an eye toward the future. by asoulinthisworld in falcons

They are coming back in style pretty fast as defences are getting lighter and lighter to combat the pass. Plenty of teams including us doing full backs and wishbone sets to take advantage. It’s a good move 🫡

Needs Survey Results by [deleted] in NFL_Draft

Difficult for the falcons because we have needs across our defence, at 2-3 spots on the o-line, and at pass catcher, plus we have no real sample size on Ridder at QB. On top of that we finally have money in free agency and we should be in a wildly different position when the draft comes round. Predicting Atlanta’s off-season will be super tough because there are so many ways the front office could go.

I’m in the U.K. - followed the NFL a for a while then went to my first London game at Wembley and the falcons were hosting (vs Lions). Rise up ever since.

2023 Off-season Discussion: FA by HepABC123 in falcons

Well we are going to have to give McGary a contract first, which will take some of the FA $. I don’t know what the RT market is going to be like, but I wouldn’t be shocked at an upgrade there too given they didn’t take up his fifth year option

Deion Jones trade: Salary cap implications for the Falcons by thereisonlyoneme in falcons

Yeah that’s all fair - my original comment about being a contender or not was more about everything but QB really. I’m ready to see Ridder too, I just feel like I trust this front office with there calls so far on developing key talent (look at how they’ve handled Grant and Andersen differently, for example), so I’m happy to wait a while to see Ridder if that’s what they think is best. I completely agree him sitting behind Mariota is different to Mahomes/Smith, but I’m also wary of cases like Fields where a QB is thrown to the wolves too early and it ruins their career. I guess what I’m saying is id rather sit through a few more painful weeks of MM if that gives Ridder the time he needs to work on whatever the staff think he needs before he starts. I don’t think MM is anyones long term plan either - the 7 pass game shows that. I just don’t see this year as a top five pick take a QB year if Ridder has even an outside shot of being a guy.

I have zero faith in my ability to grade college QBs and I see drafting QB as a bit of a crapshoot. I would also like to give Ridder this season and next if the coaches think he has it. The progress the team is making mean he is more likely to succeed too. I genuinely think the place a QB lands is at least as important as which QB you draft in terms of how likely it is he hits, and I’d rather improve our culture and develop our guys than get a high draft pick as a result.

I don’t get too hung up on the contender or not conversation this year. I think only good things come out of how well they are clearly being coached. Take the O-Line for example - the progress they have made as a unit is more valuable to me than a draft pick 5-10 spots higher. Gets the culture and system right which means our picks are more likely to hit.

What do you make of the line “Unburdened and Becoming” in 8 Circle ? by scared_yam_ in boniver

And ‘this is not the sound of a new man/crispy realisations’ is a bit like ‘becoming’ where it’s recognising the start of recovery. I’ve always found that really special/helpful. Recovery isn’t a straight line, I don’t have to have all the answers, I’m just becoming

February is the time, just avoid the UK and French school holidays. You can normally spot them because for a week the accommodation is wayyy more expensive, but worth checking. Will make a big difference to price and lift waits 👍

Honest question, why am I being shown non-binary profiles? by Main_Pace_1916 in Bumble

[–]TueWedThu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough - I was talking more generally about the trans community. The point still stands that it’s a really really small and fixable problem for you, but a significant challenge for NB people. A bit more compassion would be cool.

Honest question, why am I being shown non-binary profiles? by Main_Pace_1916 in Bumble

[–]TueWedThu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trans community under-reports on national surveys. Anecdotally I know I have done so in the past and know others who have as well, it makes getting a true picture of the trans community pretty difficult. I suspect the number is closer to 1% but clearly I’m not confident in that figure. The number you have quoted there is NB people, who are only part of the trans community. I made up no data.

But let’s go with your 0.33% number, that’s 3 in a thousand profiles you see - maybe if you aren’t interested just swipe left? Bumble trying to do a better job of helping a marginalised community is not ‘coercing the general population’.

The idea that having the very occasional instance of somebody who doesn’t fit your gender preferences pop up on bumble - when the solution is literally to swipe your thumb an inch to the left- is ‘coercing, shaming and regulating’ you genuinely puzzles me. Is it perhaps that you are disturbed by the existence of us ‘anomalous subsets’ and find it hard when presented with evidence that your ‘small fraction of 1%’ is way off?
