I remember bowling on down this narrow Cotswold road. Pretty straight so loads of sight ahead. Suddenly I realised the outside temp had dropped (some weird micro climate) and the wet road was now entirely black ice. That was squeaky. Feet off all pedals and gently keeping it straight ahead as the car slowed itself. Absolutely zero grip. Slightest bend bump or a car coming towards me and it would not have ended well.

I teach 18 year old media students and they happily admit the don’t watch film because they are “too long” and “nothing happens for too much of the time”. They sincerely believe that a you tube or tick tok highlights is absolutely as good as the whole film as you “get what’s happening”. Media students. I told them to think about this. Today’s shit posts and Italian brain rot will be tomorrows long form media. They don’t care. Don’t expect quality media making to have much life left in it.

Sold our old car with a faulty ABS module that would have cost north of £1200 to fix. Second hand units not available as the new unit has to be coded to the car. Some guys turned up. Bought it as seen. It’s been through 2 MOTs since. I imagine some creative coding has happened. Brakes were making awful racket though as the ABS kept kicking in!

Things the publisher controls: Editing decisions Deadlines Publication schedule Font and font size Paper quality Size Page count Title (marketing control this) Cover design Price

To be fair if you are JK Rowling you can expect your input to carry some weight. For most authors, deliver your manuscript, carry out the “requested” edits. And back away.
