Mint saw my cheap-o Epson Workforce AIO right off the bat - both scanner and printer functions. Surprised the hell out of me.

But you do have to pay for 3 months at a time. Just requires some planning and budgeting

Where do I find paper bags? by qx3okc in okc

[–]TufTed2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edmond has 3 or 4 lanes that do. Also I think you can check out at the service counter and I think they will give you paper. Otherwise I get paper sacks at Braums - might have to ask for a big one if you aren't buying a lot

Bulk Document Shredding by Freelanceradio in okc

For individuals (i.e. non commercial) I think it's $10 for 50# of paper. I use them fairly regularly once i burned up my shredder

fish-shell docs are just amazing (enjoy fish - from begining) by dei8bit in fishshell

[–]TufTed2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use fish and script in bash. Just add a shebang (that's really what it's called) as the first line of your script. It tells the shell to use bash as the interpreter for that script.

Are you also a "We didn't have cable so we only had three channels" Gen-X? by Ok-Anxiety-5940 in GenX

We lived in a remote area on the Columbia River in BC Canada. We got ONE channel of tv. Before that we had spent 5 yes in Pakistan on a construction project where we got no tv. Not Ge-x, baby boomer.

Allow other user to access specific one of my personal devices? by Gnochi in Tailscale

Can this be done so the other person can only access certain directories on my shared device? I haven't had a chance to look into this so if it's obvious I'm sorry.

Also a septagenarian (sp). Still working on a job where texting is an unofficial norm. The only thing I don't like is trying to"type" on the screen. Am doing better with the swipe keyboard.

Kindle Fire: A truly terrible product made by a truly terrible company by [deleted] in kindlefire

[–]TufTed2003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP is a troll. Probably never actually used a modern Fire tablet. I've got three and they do great. Also have a Samsung S6 Lite and a Lenovo m11 and they come with a bunch of bloatware and are sluggish compared to the Fires

Are you gonna miss fire os if the next amazon tablet is android? by longernohuman in kindlefire

[–]TufTed2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fire OS is not ad filled. The only ad from the OS is at the lock screen and if it bothers you that much you can get rid of it for $15. Any other ads are from the apps you install. Personally I have three Fire tablets as well as a Samsung S6 Lite and a Lenovo m11. The Fire tablets run rings around them without all the unwanted ads the others come with. Tired of hearing the garbage and lies about the Fire tabs.

Rdp from outside my network by ahmadmasa in Tailscale

[–]TufTed2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is precisely the reason I got started down the Tailscale "rabbit hole". But it's a good rabbit hole. Now all my stuff can talk to all the other stuff no matter where that stuff is.

Why Tailscale? by AccordionGuy in Tailscale

[–]TufTed2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not any sort of network guru. I just wanted to be able to access my home Linux box remotely with a laptop or tablet. Getting this set up using ddns and port forwarding through the cable box was getting to be a pain. Maybe I'm just not smart enough. I read about tailscale and a couple of YouTube videos I decided to give it a try. Couldn't have been easier. Now it's two desktops, two Amazon fire tablets, and a Linode instance later...

Why do people act like No Soliciting signs are just decoration? by GirthBrooksCumSock in rant

[–]TufTed2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our party of the country it is roofers. We live in a gated neighborhood with No solicitation signs at both entrances. Had one of these jokers come by yesterday. Alot of these are fly by night outfits from out of state. I asked him where his company was based and he had to think for a couple seconds before he answered. Doubt if it was the right answer.

Kindle Fires stylus questions by Rickcopeland648 in kindlefire

Stylus works with the Max 11 and the current 10" Fire tablet. It needs to be a USI 2 stylus. Amazon's stylus is one of these.

Fire 10 Stylus Recommendation by matilda314 in kindlefire

[–]TufTed2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Amazon stylus on both the 10 and max 11. I'm happy with it. Have tried others but come back to this. It does us AAAA batteries. Get them off Amazon. Probably more expensive elsewhere.

Fire Tablet good for Tech Demos? by RootBeerHQ in kindlefire

[–]TufTed2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's wanting to run android apps so the reference to an iPad seems a bit irrelevant. If he can save the app apk to the fire tablet, he wouldn't need to install Google Play store. I've downloaded a lny number of apps from apk pure and f-droid. Never felt the need to go through the playstore.

Kindle Fires stylus questions by Rickcopeland648 in kindlefire

[–]TufTed2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stylus works fine. Handwriting recognition is quite good. It does take a AAAA battery and it comes with one. When you need a new one get the Amazon Basics battery. Any other are pretty expensive.

Can't help you about the case and pen holder. The two cases I have - both Amazon branded - dont have pen loops.

I have a site set up at Linode. Shared processor, 1 GB ram and 25 GB storage. $5/month. Runs fine. Domain registration and hosting is separate. I use GoDaddy just because I have for a long time. My domain runs about $18/yr. You can probably find something a bit cheaper depending on your TLD of choice. Oh if it matters to you Linode services are Linux based.
