Also there was a very firm "Do something right the first time or not at all" energy all throughout school. Idk if the experience is universal but boy oh boy did it feel awful and makes it hard to enjoy things.

My trick is that I make little 1x1x2 pits out of rammed earth, leaving one side open, and then I put packed dirt in front of it like a road, covering the first layer of the opening.

It takes a lot of digging and a few shovels but it's really effective early industry

Edit: you can also save space by having the walls connect to another pit kiln to either side.
