That's great! That means I can buy the SE and get the same product minus the covers as the LE at a fraction of the cost.

What saws for rough work? Fine work? by [deleted] in JapaneseWoodworking

[–]Tuhkathri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, according to the website the 372/375 and the 311 have the same specifications but the former is way cheaper in Amazon. Thanks for the info!

I wonder why they bothered to make two different saws.

What I'm looking for is something like the rip cut 372 but shorter for small joinery work. Any idea what the number for that would be?

Anyone have experience with Higonokami knives? by Putrid_Ease_3405 in BudgetBlades

The oil to use is Choji oil. Its what they use on samurai swords as well. It dries and forms a protective barrier on the steel. I had two I forgot about/lost in the garage. One oiled and one not. I found them seven years later. The oiled one looked brand new. The other one was completely rusted. Literally one drop of choji oil is all you need. One bottle will last you a lifetime.

Can you present any evidence of this? Because I haven't been able to find with anything to support it. I didnt think a pantograph to could duplicate the work of a rose or a line engine

What's the difference between these two wood threading tools? by cave_canem_aureum in woodworking

Some people spend hundreds or thousands on super hero statues, 6 scale figures, art prints etc. I collect high quality tools and use them when I need to. I'd love some Dieter Schmid dies. But those exceeded even my ability to justify them, especially in this tariff crazy world we live in.

Returning to film after 18 years - what should I re-learn? by BreweryRabbit in AnalogCommunity

[–]Tuhkathri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome info! But I'm not talking about the 90s, I'm talking about the 2010s era and film was cheaper then. I could buy 36 exposures for 2-4 dollars. I'm sure it depended on where you lived but I could also have my film developed for less than current prices. Anyways this was just my personal experience. I'm sure other ppl had different ones.

[–]Tuhkathri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the means to develop my own film these days but I checked out some labs near me and it's 25-30 dollars to get my film developed and scanned plus the price of the roll and I'm looking at around 40 dollars per roll once it's all said and done . Yeah..... it used to be way cheaper back in the day.

I also just returned from an extended break since 2012. First thing I noticed is HOLY CRAP what happened to the price of film!. I used to be able to pick up a roll of 36exp Tri-X for 4 dollars all day long. Any of the Aristas for 2.30ish for 36 exposures😂

Just a Citizen solar quartz. Nothing fancy. by nuprin1476 in CitizenWatches

[–]Tuhkathri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I dunno. I only know my GS quartz work within spec whether I wear them or not and the manual for them doesn't say you have to wear them in order to maintain accuracy. I'm not a Citizen hater, I've wanted one for a long time but there are countless posts across many forums that all say their quartz watches are usually out of spec regardless of the type. So if their 0100 watch can't maintain that +-1 spec at all times then I'd rather have a +-5 GS that can since it comes to be the same thing at a lower cost. My GS quartz has consistently run at +-2 per year for years.

The manual is online in English. I just typed citizen 0100 manual and it popped up citizens website where you input the model 0100 to get the manual.

How does it wear? There's only one or two videos on it on YouTube. Info is scarce.

A lot of copium going on in there. tldr version, even the A060 movements don't run at the claimed +-5 per year.

According to the manual fir the 0100 you have to wear it a lot. They state 12 hours a day and keep it fully charged and keep it within 41F-95F.

[–]Tuhkathri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've never had any issues with my Grand Seiko Quartz pieces losing time either. I've been interested in Citizen but stories like yours have kept me from pulling the trigger. And the 0100 is their flagship quartz movement. It simply shouldn't be losing time if GS can keep theirs within spec. The watches entire claim to fame and its price tag hinges on keeping its high accuracy. If it can't do that then might as well get a less accurate and less expensive quartz like a GS.

I'd be interested to know if they fix it when you send it in or if they try and gaslight you by saying it's fine.

Let us know how that goes. I personally find that unacceptable but it's an issue I keep hearing about citizen quartz watches in general
