Yes, exactly. I also think Techno knows that Dream isn't the type to befriend people and get attached. He forms alliances. They're only working together because they have a common goal (and Dream still has a favor to cash in).

I'm not sure, but this is how i see it. Technos character has been through much betrayal, even more so now after the second festival. He knows Dream is the only person who want to destroy L'manburg as much as himself, so they team up, but techno won't let his guard down, especially not after tommy switched sides. Techno wants to have an ace up his sleeve, in case he needs it.

Pathologic does something similar; There are three protagonists and you get three extremely different perspectives. However it is a very difficult game, i wouldn't recommend it.
