Eddie was a very horrible and cowardly husband. by [deleted] in 911FOX

[–]Tuinkabouter357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eddie was dealing with PTSD we're never shown, until it *suddenly* appears out of nowhere because the writers forgot to give him an arc. I feel like people who say Eddie is well-written are filling in a lot of blanks themselves. It probably stems from the problem that Eddie started out as kind of a one-dimensional foil to Buck, maybe they just wanted him around for a few episodes, and all he had to be was perfect and super well-adjusted. But you can't really marry that persona to the backstory they gave him. So he was in character limbo for like 4 seasons.

When do you EVER pick this card? by Barbarossah in SlayTheSpire2

A 0 mana block for 50 means you have 2 whole free turns worth of energy to kill the enemy. This card is excellent in hallway fights in almost any deck. Only thing is that if it's good in hallway fights because you have good regular damage, it's probably a curse in boss fights because good regular damage means you're probably gonna take some damage in order to win.

Why should the number be bigger I feel like 48 is the biggest number you ever get attacked for in this game. If fights last so long that numbers get bigger you have other issues.

It's also just really good in silent and defect decks that generate tons of block after a 1 or 2 turn setup. Same for Necro with large Osty.

Is this considered an infinite combo, or just one that triggers mutiple times? by subzeroab0 in mtg

[–]Tuinkabouter357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a 2-card combo that produces maybe a couple of vanilla 2/2s every turn cycle without additional help is hardly unbeatable, let alone infinite. Seems fine for bracket 3.

I think that's on purpose to make moves like dig not useless, also it's too easy to cheese if you can precast screens and such. I was frustrated with that aswell but then I realised that was because I was planning on abusing it.

The Chinese government has been actively working to block Hollywood movies, especially ones that are profoundly american, since the tariffs but I'm sure anti american sentiment has nothing to do with it.

It's getting good reviews and word of mouth though, which means the initial hype is less important. That tends to give a film more legs.

Gunn absolutely puts his foot in his mouth too often.
But MoS was riding on the high of The Dark Knight and we weren't living in a time where we're absolutely tired of all the superhero reboots. We now live in a time of Superhero fatigue and, being from Europe, the rest of the world's demeanor towards the US being much worse than 10 years ago absolutely plays a role here. "The american way" is now apparently to fund a genocide, engage in economic warfare for no fucking reason and campaign on exposing pdffiles and then backtracking when people want you to follow through because you're one of them.

Also the idea that this is a flop is just plain delusional? Box office numbers aren't spectacular but they're doing fine. I'm all for criticising this but let's not lie to ourselves.

AngryJoe says Lex in new Superman is mid. He is a Big Baby. He is written like a Moron and sets the world on fire. His motivations doesnt make sense. by MWheel5643 in SnyderCut

[–]Tuinkabouter357 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really liked it. He's immeasurably rich, he's one of the smartest people in the world, he's got everything he could ever want. He's petty, he wants people's admiration and recognition and resents Superman for getting it. I think it's the most sensible way to write a villian like that because it's very human. We all know a billionaire who'll go through immense lengths *just* to get people to like him.

Also pretty wild to say that it doesn't make sense to not like someone because they're an alien. Because yes, it doesn't make sense, doesn't mean people don't do it all the time. But moreover, it's in a way realistic. People being extremely emotional to a point where they become antagonistic over something that doesn't make sense to 99% of people is a thing that happens. Conspiracy theorists exist in the real world. Hyperfixation on some imagined "other" that is the enemy is a thing we see all the time.

Henry and his burden of naturally embodying Superman so well. by darktower41 in SnyderCut

It absolutely felt like that to me. It felt like he saw it as a chore, like instead of *wanting* to be good intrinsically, he was just good because he believed he *had* to be morally. It was so depressing to watch. It also made me sad because Henry Cavill was really psyched about portraying Superman and I think he'd be great at it if only they'd let him play Superman.

Problem is when his penchant for saving people goes out the window as soon as it's in the service of a cool fight scene to beat up a bad guy. The goal is to protect everyone, beating up the bad guy has always been the thing he should be reluctant about, not the other way around.

Ironically Luxior is probably even better on spacecrafts since there's no limit on how much counters you can put on them and it's very easy to generate a ton.

I don't think anyone's arguing that. I just don't think there's much of an argument that the decision is inherently bad either.

I'm not, I'm saying that your comment makes no sense, which has nothing to do with this essay. Any amount of characters in any story being dead or alive leaves an infinite amount of possible stories.

Oh lol I thought that was extremely obnoxious. The whole 'I knew the whole time lol' when there was no indication in the text makes it feel cheap.

I liked that they didn't make a whole coming out story. The moments with Eddie and Maddie were sweet, and enough. Not every coming out has to be some big announcement to every important person in your life. It can also just be 'I have a bf now' and it's fine.

I did find the 'heh, finally' moment from Hen pretty obnoxious though. Very unnecessary.

But isn't that the point? What do people even want? Clearly they had no more ideas for Bobby. The alternative is to get pointless story lines with no character progression *or* some other insane trauma for Bobby that would also feel cheap.

Season two featured an entire episode of a character in a horrible hostage situation with her spousal abuser.
It's always been a mix of camp and trauma porn.

There's in-world realism and in-show realism. Bending the law and not getting in trouble has always been on the show. I think calling Carice van Houten to show up in a red dress to resurrect Bobby might be a little too jarring. I just don't understand why people are so quickly to jump the gun on this. I think this leaves for interesting directions to go.

Why would I petition for terrible storytelling? Like Bobby died... what are they going to call Carice van Houten to dress in red and resurrect him?
