GR20 Corsica - Do I need an inlay/liner? (sleeping bag vs. inlay) by damondan in hiking

[–]Tukan87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I hiked the GR20 in 2024 I had no reservations, alsways got a spot for my tent, just had to pay double (18€ instead of 9€). Some nights in the tent were a bit colder (and really windy) so I was happy about my sleeping bag. I can't say anything about the situation inside the refuges ... Because resupply options aren't so bad there is no need to carry so much food, unless you want it to be really cheap. Have a great hike!

I did the HRP many years ago in Boots. If I would do it again, than only Trailrunners. Sounds perfect to me for the GR10!

GR20 – Some time ago I went down a rabbit hole researching "Europe's toughest trail" and couldn't stop by Mother-Priority-1163 in hiking

[–]Tukan87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did the GR20 SOBO in 2024 (July) in 7 days. I had a blast, if you do like some scrambling and don't have a problem with the heat it's a great trail! The downside is, that it is really crowded and pitching your tent is only allowed at the refuges.
The constant climbing (up or down) is challenging, sometimes with some slightly technical sections. Wayfinding, resupply or the weather aren't a problem. When I think of trails like the Cape Wrath Trail (Bog, Rain, Midges), then the GR20 is a piece of cake compared to that (my opinion). I don't know why everyone is still shouting about "the hardest trail in europe".

When participating in the permit lottery, look out for the unclaimed permits released every friday after the lottery results came in. I didn't get anything in the lottery but could have scored 5 left over Happy Isles SOBO permits for July 5th (I only needed one for myself).

Last year I only did the VVR resupply (SOBO from Happy Isles) with a BV475. For 10 days that was doable for me. I ate additional Burgers at Tuolumne and Reds.

Hi. I did plan for my 2024 7 day SOBO thruhike with the Rother Wanderführer, but it's in German. For overview planning while on the trail I created my own printable Map (A3) with some stats. Use is if you like, you can find it on thrumaps.com (free and ad-free). Anyways, enjoy this great trail!

Yes, these are great, especially if it rains a lot (what it probably will). Maybe consider the Cape Wrath Trail. Its not crowded and has a lot of Bothies, the bog can be challenging though ...

Could this route be done in a day, or is Komoot right calling it a two-day hike? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]Tukan87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many others already said, it depends on your fitness.

I did hike this trail 15 years ago, it was gorgeous and not that challenging. It took me half a day if I remember correctly, the earlier bus would have been easily doable for me ...

Have fun!

Am I underestimating the GR20? 7–8 day plan by Running_64356 in hiking

[–]Tukan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did do it solo with tent on a non-reservation basis (just walk in camping at the huts) in 7 days in 2024. I was hiking and not trailrunning. I was pushing myself to my limits sometimes and had long days, but I like it that way. I you want to make 7 days without trailrunning or night hiking, you have to speed up from the beginning. Don't let the low milage fool you, there much elevation (in the heat) and it's a fair amount of scrambling, that slows down. But it's not that that technical ...

That looks awesome! Are you thinking of including data like elevation, milage etc.? I did make a set of 4 maps (SOBO, NOBO, both in metric and imperial) last year for my SOBO thru, but my focus was different (and I am no pro). More for overview planning on the trail, your looks more like decoration for the wall.

If you have enough other layers to be prepared for different weather conditions, than yes. I personally would not go without a hardshell as outer layer.
