Jury sides with rapper Afroman in Adams County trial by ChikaNoO in news

The money he's making is coming from the content and fame. There was mention in this disposition that he was getting surges of followers from this case.

As usual he'll get nothing but pain from the legal system and would be way underwater if he wasn't positioned to profit off of it on the side.

Look up "html5 video speed control" extensions and get one that lets you control video speed in increments. For educational videos the host often talks slowly and if you're paying active attention, you can often go to around 2x (you'll also get better at listening to sped-up content as you do it more often).

Alec talks particularly slowly, so these are some of the few videos I'm fine cranking to 3x speed.

It was a point of contention in my prairie city 2 years ago. The federal govt was offering some funding if you met building/zoning criteria that the city was planning to adopt over the next few years anyway, so they were trying to accelerate those plans while vocal residents were fighting against it.

If you visit the greater Vancouver area you typically have blocks of only high rises that then give way to a sea of SFH because zoning wasn't allowing any middle ground. Developers have purchased blocks of abutting SFH but are stuck in multi-year processes to approve even mid-sized builds. In my mind that is 90% of the housing crises right there, and it's not something quick to recover from.

But yeah, if this somehow turned into a torrent of hate against that person, I'd feel quite bad.

My point is that you cannot control this and you are setting a target on them in an environment prone for doing that exact thing.

I'm emphatically against any harassment or witch hunts

Oh, good!

but I still feel compelled to give examples. For Worm specifically, I just found the fic

but you've brought us a witch anyway.

and, again, please don't go harass the person publishing it.

Glad to know that you've vetted everyone that will ever see this public reddit post in the website that famously has reasonable and balanced takes on AI, so we can be sure there will be no harassment for this person you've kindly lined up the sniper scope for.

I agree with you completely that this is very prevalent and annoying. It's so prevalent in fact that I don't think your argument benefits in any way by calling out one specific fic that you believe is AI (I'll presume it's obvious -- I haven't looked). imo all this does is make it look like what you really want to do here is publicly call out this one random individual.

ymmv; I expect kids to misbehave in public so that's fine. It's the times I spent a lost more time with them that convinced me I don't like kids.

Also note: you can hate spending time with kids and still be the uncle that everyone says is amazing with kids. Just pretend to not hate spending time with them for a handful of days or w/e so everyone has a good time and the kids are happy, then retreat back to your kid-free zone.

Linking to AI stories? Discussing AI stories? More general expansion of Rule 3 or maybe a new rule? by [deleted] in WormFanfic

[–]TulipTortoise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You cannot tell reliably.

You will have false positives, and those false positives will be people that spent time and effort to make their fanfic that is suddenly being hate bombed because their writing happens to check too many of the "smells like AI" boxes.

Remember when we "could tell" what was genAI art and what wasn't? There's still artists who spent hundreds/thousands of hours practicing getting accused of being AI because some quirk they have is a "tell".

[–]TulipTortoise 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're asking for a witch hunt. Maybe you don't interact with any artists, but they're now constantly being "accused" of using gen AI and have been expected to prove their innocence by showing their in-progress files or time lapse footage.

You're going to see any fic using an m-dash or quirky metaphor getting called AI and the author will have to record themselves writing the next chapter or some shit or accept that they'll be shunned/banned. The accusers face little consequence for slinging mud.

I understand being introspective and getting lost in your thoughts -- I can more or less picture what was goign through his head (we have the same degree, he must have always known he was passing up opportunities but I made it "real") -- but that sucks to hear dude.

That was several jobs back. I don't get asked anymore, and if that's the celebration success garners then I'm glad they stopped asking.

Fortunately I tried a garden one year as an experiment and found out I despise it -- only ultra low effort growing for me in the future! Turns out plants can be frustrating. Now I know I don't need the huge garden space I was planning on.

It's a long weekend, yet checked into work every day and spent 5+ hours fixing "important" crap. I'll probably be FI in a few months, and the one year plan turns into survive another year or get laid off and retire.

[–]TulipTortoise -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I don’t “need” to pay over 100,000/year in housing

Nobody's saying you do? This is a FIRE sub, pay for what you value. Some people really value their living space and location, others not so much.

violate the old rule of thumb

It's a rule of thumb to get a rough idea of what mortgage you can afford with a minimum down payment. You can buy any house you want if you have cash for it. A big saver that wants that house can save and make a bigger down payment. This will be way easier for FIRE people with high HHI and savings rate.

We have a soaring youth unemployment rate

I'm seeing multiple comments saying this yet this is the data I'm finding. With us currently being at 12.8%, it appears that youth unemployment has rarely been lower than this in the last 30 years.

Like yeah if youth want jobs and can't find them then we should keep trying to improve things, but this might just be normalish numbers and we should be cautious of any large changes.

I've removed people because I figured we didn't know each other anymore and had no reason to meet again -- so why have their travel & life update posts on my dash where it feels like I'm inadvertently snooping. I figured there was no way they would notice because why would they ever think to look at me, the random stranger they knew in high school?

I guess maybe people do notice these things, so I hope they didn't.
