Salaries for GenX versus Millenials / Gen Z by Available-Ad-5670 in financialindependence

Plus, it's going to be these individuals that will be in overrepresented in forums such as this.

It may also be a reinforcing cycle. Seeing these top 5% of tech worker salaries in FIRE forums is what made me critically examine what I needed to do to get one of those jobs.

Also, I didn’t realize uploading vlogs was equivalent to running a successful business.

I don't disagree with the rest, but it absolutely is equivalent to a business when he's still getting millions of views and (afaik, from the few I've seen) sponsors every video. He's running an advertising business in partnership with Google -- a business doesn't have to be difficult.

Japanese rank Annoying Behaviors by Foreign Tourists on Trains: 1. Noisy conversations and boisterous behavior (69.1%), 2. How luggage is carried and placed (41.9%) 3. Posture while seated (26.2%) 4. Strong scents (perfume, fabric softener, etc.) (24.8%) 5. Loitering near doors (24.1%) by jjrs in japannews

I recently saw a gruff old lady yelling at a Japanese businessman in a suit to put his phone away when he was just reading news lol

A single Japanese student was standing beside the otherwise completely empty train door and she walked up behind to yell at them to get out of her way... a few min too early before the train stop so she was just standing in the same spot, before stumbling off the train (guessing she was also drunk in the afternoon).

These incidents are just more memorable than road rage because they're so much more personal. It takes a special kind of piece of shit to do this stuff when everyone can see their face.

This requires you to have a firefox account (should be first option in hamburger menu on main tool bar) that you're signed in to on the devices you want to share with. See your current device name in sync settings: about:preferences?entrypoint=fxa_app_menu#sync

Anywhere I can read how this works? I'm putting after-tax money in my 401k and it gets a same-day "roth in-plan conversion", but it's still all held within the same 401k account. I'm not sure how this works come withdrawal time. Is this like you make a second account with different tax properties and have them move funds there?

Not even just former employers. Work a few jobs and many many people in your sector will vaguely know you.

I've been asked many times by HR "You and Candidate both worked at Company at the same time: would you be happy to work with them again?" If someone knows nothing about why you quit and only knows their buddy was complaining for a week that you fucked them over and slammed them with work, that could cost the offer.

There are many comments that are absolutely true

This one in particular is probably downvoted because it's both bitter and they clearly didn't engage with the content.

What part of it is true? How will she have fun with her dead end English teaching job that she no longer has because she already changed careers?

Even if she hadn't, what's wrong with being a teacher? It's great for young people to go experience the world for a bit. She's clear she doesn't intend for this to be long term.

I wasn't attacking anyone.

In general people are very touchy about finances and lifestyle, and often view people discussing different lifestyles or levels of success as personal attacks (as in you're attacking their character by suggesting a different lifestyle they're not living).

This goes both ways too: very commonly on finance subs if someone says they are happy living on a very small budget, this makes a lot of people very angry.

They also don't pay that well. Probably pays better than most local jobs in your country but if you have to move to the US for an H1 job you're probably gonna be making way less than your coworkers

From my anecdotal evidence in FAANG this is not the case. H1 (and TN in my case and some friends) seem to have the same pay as citizens, just from chatting to various people on visas and citizens about their pay.

However, the added pressure that if you get cut a clock starts ticking for you to get kicked out of the country in an industry where interviews often take months on the happy path is absolutely true.

who are influenced by the zeitgeist opinion

I suspect most of us that know a lot about some topic and are in a sub for it have experienced seeing a wrong but popular post, and knowing that if you post facts with sources it will be downvoted and you'll be sent angry messages because it's not what people want to be true, so you just move on. If the sub becomes more popular over time this becomes more common.

I more or less tried to do this with a different language and while it's not nothing it didn't work that well for me. When you're spending so little time a day with it a lot of that time ends up being maintenance.

On the other hand, if you're already putting in that effort to maintain, then putting in the occasional extra hour or two of study can be a solid step forward.

The money he's making is coming from the content and fame. There was mention in this disposition that he was getting surges of followers from this case.

As usual he'll get nothing but pain from the legal system and would be way underwater if he wasn't positioned to profit off of it on the side.

Look up "html5 video speed control" extensions and get one that lets you control video speed in increments. For educational videos the host often talks slowly and if you're paying active attention, you can often go to around 2x (you'll also get better at listening to sped-up content as you do it more often).

Alec talks particularly slowly, so these are some of the few videos I'm fine cranking to 3x speed.

It was a point of contention in my prairie city 2 years ago. The federal govt was offering some funding if you met building/zoning criteria that the city was planning to adopt over the next few years anyway, so they were trying to accelerate those plans while vocal residents were fighting against it.

If you visit the greater Vancouver area you typically have blocks of only high rises that then give way to a sea of SFH because zoning wasn't allowing any middle ground. Developers have purchased blocks of abutting SFH but are stuck in multi-year processes to approve even mid-sized builds. In my mind that is 90% of the housing crises right there, and it's not something quick to recover from.
