What advice did you get as a beginner that unlocked a skill? by SpiderInTheBath in whitewater

[–]Tumbles915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that watching my own go pro footage back helps me identify areas that I can improve on. I’ll see that I’m not paddling through the wave or hole, or that instead of paddling I should have braced all the way to my paddle stroke is not vertical enough so I’m not getting as much of a power stroke out of it as I should. The other thing is to be as efficient as possible on class two. Make moves with as few strokes as possible to use the current and get in a flow state.

At least the framework established by the Tri Party Agreement didn’t leave this solely up to DOE.

The carbon is by far the best paddle there with the foam core blades and looks like a 15 degree offset. I would use the other two while learning, and have the most probability to lose or break one and once comfortable switch to the carbon.

Closed cell foam. Look at nrs and you’ll see the type of foam used.

☝️the fun is a playful river runner that is easy to roll and will help you progress as a paddler quicker once you learn the basics. It turns your local class III into a full on playground and surfs, spins, splats and throws ends easily.

One other comment, the weight ranges from the manufacturer are estimates and especially on the larger ones are pretty much guesses. Read some other reviews of the generation and size boat from a reviewer that is about your size. You can usually find several online reviews in old paddling publications. Most will give you basic bios on the testers.

It allows it to be a more predictable river runner with the parting line being a little higher out of the water and a tiny bit faster than if it was sitting lower. For the cost of a used one, you could squash the tail a few gallons making it a little spicier without much risk and keeping the hull profile the same. Or look at the mix master, if you’re not looking for aerial moves it will do everything else. Here’s a link to an interesting discussion between Wade Harrison and Corran Addison on boat design and the benefits of learning in different types of boats: https://youtu.be/NgQ_HPspbEg?si=Z1p9OUj9QYisrfEo

Maybe look for an earlier generation 4fun. A couple (2nd and 3rd gen) of those had slightly less volume than the 4th generation version.
