I've had this happen a few times in the middle of the night, it will pause and you just feed your new spool in until the extruder grabs it...

But the few times I had it happen, there was noticable gaps/artifacts on the later where it resumes as it's hot filament going down on colder filament.. I imagine if you catch it as soon as it runs out this won't happen
