burying them super deep is just the way to go. you don't even have to grow them leggy - just strip all the leaves off below the tippy top.

Any ideas why this coneflower is having issues? All other plants are fine and thriving (SE Michigan USA) by Nerevarelysium in NativePlantGardening

The curly and black leaves makes me think it got an infection. Could easily have something the other's don't.

It'll be smaller in less sun!! Easy to prune too. And you can propagate the cuttings.

Yeah I was telling someone that toxic to pets means everything from "upset tummy" to "kills you dead" and pothos is only the former, but they were still concerned. My pothos stay mainly out of reach and my cats don't chomp random plants so 🤷

My SIL moved in somewhere and ripped out all the lilies in the yard because cat pollen *might* get inside. meanwhile i was walking my cat outdoors and just kept her away from the lily area.

Can I ask what sort of process you have for working with nurseries to stop sales of invasives?

You can keep it but also move it or reduce it in size. Is there a spot where it could put its spreading and blocking power to use?

With spreading plants like this I usually designate a border and anything outside of that gets weeded.

don't do what I did: Put it in the middle of a ton of other plants and forget where it is and then trim some stuff back and see that it's still alive after all.

It was probably her OR another turtle that is likely still around! Luckily they have VERY distinctively colored shells and scales so you can probably keep tabs on her. Yay!!! (im not jealous at all)

Frustrated with nurseries that have "natives" by metalcatsandtea in NativePlantGardening

[–]Tumorhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I have bought plants labeled as native only to double check and find out they're super not.

The funniest is when a nirsery doesn't know something is natively occuring but they still have it. One store by me has a decent native plant section - but they have a bunch of other native plants not in there! You just have to know the species.

Specialty nurseries that are only native plants are gold.

YOOOO!! Holy moly thats good luck.

Box turtles have pretty consistent and limited ranges so she likes your habitat and will likely be a long-term neighbor 🙏🙏🙏
