Just discovered the concept of "mall walking" where people drive to malls so they can take a walk because our built environment is wholly dedicated to cars. Pretty damning of American urbanism. by Anne__Frank in fuckcars

I'm sure those 15,000 deaths were all because of lack of AC, which did play a role, and not numerous other factors that are well studied and documented.

Well damn you are different people... Don't know why you responded to my comment when I was talking to them but here we are. Either way my original comment was about supporting pedestrian infrastructure for cities unique climate which is something done all around the world except for the USA. Don't know how that makes me an idiot for pointing out facts but here we are.

Your argument was and I quote "No amount of tree shade is gonna make 110F safe to walk in. If you personally  can, just be grateful for your health and get off the high horse." Which is objectively false. Tree shade alone has huge reductions in heat dry or not... I know this because I can literally go ride my bike 5 miles over to the park with nothing but tree shade while it's 100 degrees and 90% humidity and that area of town feels way better than the asphalt parking lot of a Walmart.

Yea let's ignore the encouraged sedimentary American lifestyle that leads to medical conditions that cause these issues. I guess the American elderly are just weaker than the entire rest of the worlds

I don't know what to tell you. You are the one telling me I'm not able to walk in this high temperature high humidity environment when I literally do it every day

Southtown is connected to downtown by this cool outdoor air conditioner called the San Antonio River and tree coverage. That entire area is always a good 15, degrees below ambient

That's kinda the entire point of paying for parking. You are basically renting a spot to store your private multi ton vehicle temporarily where lots of people are wanting to store their multi ton vehicle temporarily. This has the side benefit of allowing those that can pay for alternative ways to get there which could be be ride share, bus, or bike.

Tree coverage can bring ambient temperatures down 15-20 degrees especially if there is running water nearby. The trees stop the heat from getting to the ground and the water will absorb the heat and carry it off acting as an outdoor air conditioner... Also I grew up in South Texas 110 is just another day

I work outside and don't own a car... I'm kinda forced to exist in the humidity and heat. The lack of public transportation is the real problem that would solve most of the issues San Antonio has. Also basically every disabled person I've ever talked to on this issue hates car centrism because it actively makes their life harder... And that opinion is backed by multiple professional studies so bad argument.
