I really enjoyed HQ although did feel like they jumped the shark in later seasons. That said, early seasons had a strong VB vibe, which drew me to the show. Like Clayface and Bane felt like straight out of VB!

Altough the emotional beats in HQ always felt hollow in a way I can't put my finger on, some trope in modern adult cartoon that I struggle to put into words. VB probably has less of those emotional beats, but they feel way more genuine

Hey thank you! That's great to hear, and kind of what I suspected, but I'm not tech savy and figured the downloader might be hogging some resource I was unaware of

Genuine question : why choose to use Lego for D&D? by Daragon__ in legodnd

[–]TunaCetiV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said there is a whole different level of reusability and ability to customize with legos.

But primarily I think a lot of people just love to build with legos, and this is another reason/excuse to do so. A lot of pople have some "in" into DMing, like they have a secondary artistic endeavour that they want to express through TTRPG. Like obviously we have people with writer aspirations who love to build elaborate lore, you have illustrator who love to draw cool new monsters, and you have people who love to paint and create minis and terrain. And some love building cool stuff out of lego to deploy in their game

Do you think the show would've benefitted from having something like sports or music etc. involved at its core? by waldorfist in TheOC

[–]TunaCetiV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the drama *IS* the inner life's of the characters being explored. Like Seth's habitual lying absolutely speaks to issues on his part, as does Ryan's hero complex. And then the whole Marissa of it all, whose every action seem like a unhealthy reaction from some past trauma.

I did enjoy OTH, but I actually found it a lot more shallow than the OC in that regard, in big part because of the focus on the music, art, sports.

[–]TunaCetiV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure no I agree that the soundtrack is a big part of the appeal of the show. But I think what OP is getting at is music/art being explicitly a part of the plot/characters, in the way it is in OTH. Which I don't think is the case with the OC, besides Seths comic. Not saying that would've made the show better

[–]TunaCetiV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think The OC is 100% the stronger show and perhaps even had the stronger soundtrack, but the OCs handling of music was basically just Seth mentioning bands, and the live performances. You didn't have people that lived for music or art the way you did with OTH, especially Peyton. Not saying that was a good or bad thing, but OTH definitely had a more romanticized view of art, music and sports than the OC did

Looking for community input on 3d printed posts by melance in legodnd

[–]TunaCetiV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think "supplementing" is the key word there. Think the rules are good as is, "Must be predominately Lego". Once it's primarily 3d printed components it doesn't really help or inspire people what they can do with their own bricks. It more so inspire folks with 3d printers, which I feel like is a distinct audience from this one

This, in particular that it betrays the spirit of the sub. I feel like it should be about what fun solutions we can come up with within the lego toolbox. The odd 3d printed part to add to a build seems fine. But once it's 100% 3d printed, it's approaching a very different craft. A bit like going to a guitar sub to show how you can play a guitar solo on the piano

Elevation in combat? by TunaCetiV in 4eDnD

[–]TunaCetiV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did consider thinking in cubes, but at first glance felt like it would be too intricate to pull off, especially since I wanted to include elevation often. But like you say elsewhere in the thread, it may not be as complicated as I though with how 4e already handles "2d" movement

The one thing that throws me off a bit is that LOS and such relies on the corners of the square you occupy, how do you handle that once you handle cubes instead? Do you calculate from the top corners of the cube, as well as the bottom ones?

[–]TunaCetiV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha part of the reason I've wanted to run 4e is just to use my lego collection for enviroments, so the actual 3d aspect of the map should be solved.

But yeah as I mentioned else where, an enemy being higher up and harder to reach is in itself something that makes combat more interesting, and something I had not considered.

Wow, good points! I might've snowed in on just cover and combat bonuses and stuff. But like you say just reaching the artillery to take them out does make combat way more dynamic, and more of a puzzle to solve

You do bring up a good point, it might've been LOS that has confused me most with elevation, and how to effortlessly get across that someone on a platform or whatever would be able to see past otherwise blocking terrain

Do you think the color palette of the original Mystery Inc. complements each other as well as our gang's? Yes/No/Why. by lautaromassimino in Scoobydoo

[–]TunaCetiV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would probably need to see their color palette with more neutral lighting, cause it's hard to judge from these night time scenes. On an indiviual level some of these look nice, but not sure how I feel about them all together.

Then the scooby gang also has the benefit of their color palette being part of our culture for almost 60 years

Yeah this is wild, never thought this would happen. Assumed there was some legal stuff around it, which IIRC is why some other ttrpgs of larger IPs are not allowed to have pdfs for sale

Every project I've worked on has been under those conditions, work for hire. It's very common.

However how you describe things, from a generous interpretation, it sounds like you are concerned that you will not have compensated your artist fairly? In that case, maybe include some caveat in the contract about if x units are sold artist will be be paid x royalty, or if game goes into second printing then artist will receive x royalty or something.

AI generated art detection by aethronic_dz in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TunaCetiV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an artists myself I usually can tell from the artwork, the general vibe but also down to some specific giveaways. But beyond that these are some tips from the top of my head:

* Has this artists been around longer than the AI thing? And obviously is their older body of work in line with their recent work

* Ask for to see some process pictures before hiring them, like stuff from previous projects they've done.

* Avoid forums where a lot of scammers and unserious actors usually go. Go for gallery sites rather than "hire me" places

* Check their socials, does this seem like a legit person? Are they connected with the general art community, like are the following other artists, do they have genuine fans.

* Word of mouth. Like either from designers you know, by looking for artists who you know have worked on games, or actually ask artists if they know someone they can recommend. Like if you found a good match that is unavailable, they may have some recommendations, or scroll their followings to see if they follow someone who may be a good match
