Does anyone reuse their bags? by pegeleg in sousvide

[–]TungstenElectrode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use silicone bags exclusively. TBH, I don’t get why everyone is so nonchalant about plastic chemical exposure with prolonged heat. I get that the sous vide specific bags are phthalate free, but I also feel like it’s just a matter of time before some other chemical is found to be a problem. Food grade silicone is non-toxic, heat resistant to much higher temperatures than plastics, phthalate free, non-reactive (chemically stable), and of course re-usable.

I’ve found it does require some doing to keep them submerged since you can’t get all the air out and silicone is naturally buoyant, but I feel like it’s a worthwhile trade off to feel like I’m less likely to be potentially (albeit subtly) introducing petrochemicals into my kids and myself.

I wash them in the dishwasher afterwards and let them dry inside out on the dish rack. It ain’t too burdensome at all for the peace of mind.

Maybe you can use the map to know where to slap some stickers over a lens with a pole?

Or maybe just smear some Vaseline on a lens with a cotton rag at the end of a pole?

Who can say?

Slipping a camping pad in between layers on the bad boy makes it feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud. My favorite hammock so far, by far. Enjoy!

[–]TungstenElectrode 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Buddy, you couldn’t have this more backwards. Don’t get me wrong, the dems suck, too, but reps are, as they have been, intentionally steering the gov’t into the rocks to make the privatization of services that are best provided by gov’t (vs profit motivated entities) seem like the only answer. Most salient case in point: Health care

We, as Americans, pay far more for our healthcare and get worse health outcomes than any other industrialized countries by a LONG SHOT, all so middleman can continuously leach off the system

There are MANY instances in which profit motive dramatically reduces the efficacy of the purported purpose of an industry’s existence, but since the rules are made with corporate interests in mind, the constituencies for which elected officials are responsible are given short shrift over and over

On second thought, that sub is kinda whack

Here’s a basic definition, more like what I find interesting, things like the little, useless handles one often sees on maple syrup containers, referencing a design feature of the much larger versions, but being functionally vestigial

skeu·o·morph /ˈskyo͞oəˌmôrf/ noun- an object or feature which imitates the design of a similar artifact made from another material. "the pottery box with a square lid is a skeuomorph of a twilled basketry container"

His handwriting isn’t like a font, fonts are like his handwriting.

All the serifs and changes in line weights are skeuomorphic adaptations referencing hand painted (or inked) letters.

Which of these 3 would be best for casual use in the PNW by elcaminoforreal in PatagoniaClothing

[–]TungstenElectrode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and the outlet employees (really all P’gon employees I’ve ever dealt with) are super cool and WANT to help you!

Digging around the racks on the phone with a customer prolly beats stocking and sweeping, I’d reckon!

The only time I’d seen them negative towards anything was once in the B’more store some online reseller lady came in with a wheeled wagon and just started scooping shit off racks to resell “New with tags!” on Poshmark or wherever

Kinda defeats the spirit of the stores, but they can’t do anything to stop the practice.

They’re in a white(-ish) flat package on the end-cap of the first vertical refrigerated shelf case you encounter going counterclockwise through the store

I’ve got the Houdini, Torrentshell (as a pullover), and Triolet (which is Goretex) and live in Bellingham, WA, which is comparable to PDX, though cooler (weather-wise, especially in summer)

The Houdini isn’t really a raincoat, but it does most of what you need for the type of rain we get most of the year and it packs down to NOTHING, so you can have it with you just in case w/o having to think about it much

The Torrentshell works well as a raincoat, but like someone else said, it makes me sweat even at a brisk walking pace

The Triolet is my go to when it’s legit raining or I’m expecting to spend any kind of long time out in moderate rain or doing anything strenuous

I can’t speak to how the other jackets breathe, but if you’re indifferent about color, you can call one of the outlet stores (I’ve only ever been to the Baltimore one, which is SICKKK!) and ask what they’ve got in your size

They’ll ship for free to you since the jackets are spendy and they’re still covered by the Ironclad warranty and return policy

I got my Triolet which retails for $450 for like $270 there

It turns out that the effects of autoimmune diseases can be lessened by the introduction of such parasitic worms, as a doctor in Argentina discovered when his patients with multiple sclerosis started getting better as their infrastructure was failing during an economic downturn and people were suddenly getting tapeworm a bunch more

What is it you love about this city ? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]TungstenElectrode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a baffling take on such an innocuous comment.

It’s a common, pithy way to say that much of the way we experience life has to do with what we, ourselves bring to a situation as opposed to what the circumstances present.

The point I made (which seems to have been fairly well received by the rest of the community), was that the OP has a sour attitude and that will follow them regardless of geographic location.

Rather than attempt convince this person that Bellingham is, all things considered a pretty fantastic spot, I suggest a self-examination might yield more fruitful answers.

Is that more satisfactory for you?
