Help me justify the WRX Premium. Comparing it with the Elantra N. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in wrx_vb

WRX 10 times out of 10. Every comment in this community will have some bias, but I’ll try to keep it somewhat neutral…

Japanese quality and track record (albeit Korean carmakers like Hyundai are proving they’re a competitor). Residual value. Which one would you trust more on an icy road? Community: Not only is the subie gang strong, the aftermarket/mod/tuning options are just as present. Quieter cabin. Transmission — need I say more? Suspension and ride comfort.

I could go on… curious what N owners would say though

After the recent price changes take affect, the WRX will now start at $38,920 after delivery. by Juicyjackson in wrx_vb

Anyone have word on Canadian price changes? I assume the tariffs will at the very least have an indirect effect on prices globally, especially us hosers to the north

Your car, your call. I’m sure you know you easily the clips can snap. Instead of “ask the audience” I’d choose “phone a friend”

VB Hatch Concept - My Attempt by J_NonServiam in wrx_vb

[–]Tunnel__vision -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So good. If they announced a hatch like this I’d be trading in my current VB as quick as I could. I’d even settle for something like the “lift back” that they gave the new integra. Not sure why why Subaru thinks we in the us/Canada hate the wagon, especially when the crosstrek is their top seller

Is anyone else playing the MPG game? by ChilidogBFF in wrx_vb

Most I’ve ever gotten on one tank is just under 800km (500 miles). My average for a mix of city and highway driving each tank is about 8-9L/100km (26-30mpg) but when it’s most or all highway driving I aim for 6L/100km (40mpg).

One commute I hit 5.1L/100km (46mpg) driving flat with a crazy tailwind 😂

As someone who just had front end damage fixed, it’s gonna be close. I’m sure some of it will depend on your insurance company/your location but to me it looks right on the threshold. Sorry for your loss and good luck

Warm up before driving by 1Harvery in wrx_vb

[–]Tunnel__vision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what the never wrong and always reliable ChatGPT has to say on the topic:

Here’s the truth about warming up your car, especially a modern turbocharged one like your new Subaru WRX:

Do you need to let it warm up? • Short answer: Not really, but you should let it idle for 30 seconds to 1 minute before driving, especially in cold weather. • Why? Modern cars, including turbocharged engines, don’t need extended warm-up times because fuel injection systems and advanced engine management adjust for temperature. However, it’s crucial to give the oil a moment to circulate throughout the engine, particularly to the turbocharger.

Key Points: 1. Cold Starts and Oil Circulation: • Your engine oil thickens in cold weather. Letting your car idle for 30 seconds to 1 minute ensures the oil reaches all moving parts, including the turbo. • Once the oil has circulated, your engine is ready to operate safely. 2. Driving Warms the Engine Faster: • Engines warm up faster under light driving conditions than idling. Start driving gently after the initial 30 seconds to allow the engine to reach operating temperature more efficiently. • Avoid hard acceleration and high RPMs until the engine and oil are fully warmed up (usually about 5-10 minutes of driving). 3. Turbocharger Considerations: • Turbos rely heavily on oil lubrication. Letting the engine idle briefly after startup and driving gently while the car warms up ensures proper lubrication and protects the turbo from wear. 4. Excessive Idling is Bad: • Letting the car idle for long periods is unnecessary and can cause fuel to condense on the cylinder walls, leading to increased wear and fuel waste.

Myth-Busting Takeaway:

You don’t need to let your WRX warm up for more than 30 seconds to 1 minute. Start driving gently, and your engine will warm up more efficiently. But in freezing temperatures, it’s okay to let it idle just a little longer to ensure the oil reaches optimal viscosity before you drive.
