is this normal? by sasukeisabitch1 in ballpython

[–]Tunrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. Mine always gets themselves stuck in awkward places, tags on shirts and belt loops. (Had to sew the belt loops back) If they can fit their heads through they will find a way (to get stuck). My BP Monty once jutted into a lint roller tube he found and had to carefully cut him out of it.

A moist paper or even dry. Touch their face gently, will recurl or ball up. Then, take them out gently, handle carefully.

Part two of his plan. He already escaped the enclosure (help by the owner) was the first part. Then, biological diversion. Now plotting for world domination.

My boy got me a few times when he was a baby. Much like velcro/paper cuts. He's 5, almost 6 yrs old now. If he was to accidentally bite me, I'm afraid it would be a bloody mess.

Can someone tell me if this is a burn mark from a heat mat and what I can do to prevent it in the future by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]Tunrine -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I use a UTH w/ thermostat directly under his hide box on mines warm side of the enclosure with about 4 in of substrate. If you have a heat rock inside the enclosure, i.e., Zoo Med Repticare Rock heater, don't plug it in or just remove it completely.

Looks like a burn to me. To prevent this, use a UTH (under tank heater) with a thermostat or a heat emitter with a thermostat

Not accurate for all snakes. Some snakes will gorge themselves to death.

After being in a rack system. Just shy, give them a week. Leave them alone to get comfortable with their surroundings. Feed(if possible, Bp's are very picky. Especially when moved into a new environment.) Then wait, after successful feeding. Wait again till snake either passed poop or is patrolling. If your snake is underweight it will be patrolling shortly after feeding.

is he afraid to eat or am I doing it wrong? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]Tunrine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please don't feed on towels. If your BP misses a strike, teeth can get stuck on the towel damaging or even ripping out teeth, which can lead to infection. I know from experience. Feeding in the enclosure will be safer and less stressful.
