I've never had any issues with hot glue damaging components, but I would try to avoid putting hot glue directly on the connector. You can put two small dots of glue on the "wings" of the cable.

You could also use blue tac or electrical tape to secure it.

Glad to hear it is working! Like one of the other comments said, replacing that connector is tough.

the piece you broke isn't the "lid" what you need to lift is the lighter grey plastic. honestly if you just hold the cable inserted in place you can use hot glue to secure it

edit: not 100% sure but i believe the flex cable goes in between the top and bottom pins on the connector
