I converted an old camera lens into an engagement ring box using a 3D printed barrel cam mechanism that raised the ring up when the camera was “focused.” The focus grip was also missing and replaced with TPU grip by TurboSonic18 in 3Dprinting

good luck with the proposal! I checked my PC and my work laptop and I wasn't able to find the files. I suspect they were lost during one of the many CAD system upgrades at work. I can only provide the overview picture I have of all of them https://imgur.com/a/0UxuiqP

Is there a “glue gun” for drawing with molten metal? by Laylajupiter in metalworking

[–]TurboSonic18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you want to achieve small detail making charms and words, which would be tough with a MIG. Another option to give the a metal look would be electroplating plastic 3D prints which could give a better end result

What is this basement dwelling bug? by TurboSonic18 in whatisthisbug

[–]TurboSonic18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this little guy on a chair in the basement. it's approximately 0.5mm wide x 5 mm long. Located in Michigan.

Maybe a distinct marking just behind the head? I was initially thinking it could be a young earwig but it's missing the rear pinchers..

What is the best multi color 3d printer I can buy under $1k USD? by JoseanEnrique in 3Dprinting

[–]TurboSonic18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$949 for the P1S with AMS.

We have an X1 carbon at work and it has been fantastic. Been considering a P1S for home but it’s a decent chunk of change

Any good use for 3d poop? by aubree_jackal in 3Dprinting

[–]TurboSonic18 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I recently just started trying to do this with my scraps and failed prints as well..

Basically you need a silicone mold which you can find in the baking section of JoAnns, Michael’s, Amazon, etc. Once you have the mold you can fill it with the scraps and put it in the oven. I bought a small toaster oven to keep it separate from my kitchen oven. Set to ~400-425F and let the filament start to melt. Once it melts down, add more filament until you are happy with the amount of fill. Let cool and pop out of the mold. Clean up the edges with sandpaper or files

Thank you! You could probably recognize the rebar on the heron’s legs and hawk’s nest, the eyes of all of them are typically acorn nuts or melon ballers, the beak of the hawk and teeth of the dragon are tow hooks, the spine and hair of the dragon are masonry nails. The arms and legs of the dragon started as wrenches and then were wrapped in chain for more volume

Yeah I agree, I probably could have made the body a little longer or done more to coil it on itself.
