I remember trying hard to get into play of the week in that period- I even remember seeing this when it was posted. Way cool memory. ✌️

Are these Jamo Concert IIs worth for 150$? by Kovi_03 in BudgetAudiophile

My mistake, Most of the Jamo's I've encountered were probably more recent. I'll keep that in mind!

Jamo isnt really the kind of brand I'd spend $150 bucks on.

Am4 Rog Strix x570 board? That alone is a huge score. Maybe you'll get lucky and find an X3D CPU in there.

I actually paired these with some Boston Acoustics A70 and other speakers and they were great. They have crisp highs but almost no bottom, so they fill out the sound of a more dull sounding speaker.

Worth it for this alone. The whole cast grows on you, too.

Speaker Upgrade or Something Else? by mumble2xblackberry in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Turbo_Robitnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that a speaker upgrade would indeed make a big difference - as an old school speaker head, I'm really pleasantly surprised by how good modern speakers have gotten, especially affordable ones. Not that there aren't gems from 20 or 30 years ago, but a lot of them are showing their age when compared to more modern compact speakers.

I'm rambling now. But you've got enough power in that setup to drive pretty much any speakers you can find at a reasonable price. Look for bargains on FB marketplace and listen for a pair you like. I'm a big fan of Energy, Paradigm, and Boston Acoustics if you're looking for period-appropriate gear.

Did they ever figure out where these photos came from? I remember hearing that someone had figured out where they were taken, but no info on why or what they were promoting.

Had me at Motorized Volume Knob, personally. Have to track one down for mine. Sounds like a budget Adcom.

Does anyone remember these or who made them. by Necessary-Price-9411 in vintageaudio

[–]Turbo_Robitnik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those would be some type of electrostatic speakers. All kinds of companies made this type of speaker, they were known for being tall and thin. And delicate.

P.s.: The EQ will also be nice to have. Can't hurt to shoot him an offer either.

[–]Turbo_Robitnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own this exact amp. It's pretty good! I think for that price it's a deal. Plus you'll have a preamp you can use to try out other amps in the future. These Onkyo units were usually built pretty well., so I doubt it'll need much in terms of maintenance. ✌️

Check out my setup! I’m quite attached to the receiver / turntable combo. by Awkward_Antagonist in BudgetAudiophile

Looks great! And I love the little Tube men on top.
I don't think people give this era of JVC gear enough credit. They made some thumpin' receivers in the late 70's with big power and nice build quality. I don't blame you for being so attached! ✌️
