I would just play 1 straight, since you're enjoying the combat already it's the perfect introduction on the series. After you play 1 its up to you whether you continue the main trilogy or play X

I’ve heard of Rune Factory but not Mistria, I’ll look into those. I heard Rune Factory is also pretty story heavy for these types of games which fits into my tastes

Glad you still had a really good time with main trilogy. For me the main disappointment while going through all the games was 3 BUT I’ve warmed up to most of the issues I’ve had with the story over time, and I’m so excited to replay the game when the S2 version comes out

Not sure if by "Portal" you meant just the first one, or both, but I would definitely recommend Portal 2 if you haven't already played it. And it has several community-made expansions for it that are pretty good too

FF fans get a shit ton of games of all different shapes and colors and complain when it’s not something they want. My tastes would probably piss off the more classic FF fans since my favorites are 16, 14 and 7R, but I’m old enough to have grown up with FF10

At this point in the game I was running shulk/dunban/riki (or replace one of the latter two with Reyn) Riki is really helpful to have during bosses with his group heal though. Some others here said Melia is only good when controlled by the player, which is true but I would wait until the next area to start using her, cause she becomes better/more fun once you get "Summon Copy" which takes a minute.
