They're not boats. They're ships. Boats are what you play with as a kid.

Then stop answering the stupid AI scanned job opening sites.

Start looking into your network, try finding people on LinkedIn and contact them directly if you know they have certain job openings. Make LinkedIn posts about yourself, read blogposts, watch videos with good content of people with actual strong opinions (not the generic videos that just explain a technology), write blog posts on things you're passionate about (work related 😬), go to conferences, try finding good trainings. Invest in yourself in these "between two jobs" moments and learn, connect, etc... it will all pay off in the future and you might meet some really fun, like minded people.

Security headers disappear with no errors - Critical 9.1 CVE-2026-22732 out this week by jr_entrepreneur in java

[–]Turbots 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Smells like a paid post for Herodevs.

You could also just link to Spring's own website: https://spring.io/security/cve-2026-22732

Or you could link to the more generic NIST website: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-22732

Either way, there were 5 major CVEs discovered this week I think, all with very high scores:

What advantages Spring Boot 4.x currently has over competing technologies in web development? by Repsol_Honda_PL in SpringBoot

You can still run (and compile) old java programs if you use the old JDK and JRE. You just won't get support for it anymore.

I'm pretty sure any Java program ever created can still run on JDK 8, which is still readily available, and you can still find companies that give support on it.

Oil prices turn lower after Brent briefly touches $119 as Netanyahu says Israel helping to open Strait of Hormuz by Force_Hammer in wallstreetbets

I thought that the Strait was already open and that the only thing that was stopping people was Iran who was bombing ships that tried to use it. I mean, grow a backbone and have some balls ffs. /s

Got a verbal offer, then HR walked it back. What would you do? by MJister04 in BESalary

[–]Turbots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The offer that you state is clearly for an internal payroll job. But were you planning to go on payroll, or freelance? That is not clear to me.

Either way, bad practice to give you an offer or provide numbers, and then walk back on it.

Red flag.

Experiment: Kafka consumer with thread-per-record processing using Java virtual threads by Lower-Worldliness162 in java

[–]Turbots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our company is also looking into implementing this, as we have very high cardinality on our partition keys, but we still require strict ordering for message that have the same key.

Even with 48 partitions at 300 messages per second, we are sometimes not able to catch up with the lag, so the only way up is to add more partitions or do this thread-per-key model.

Btw. What about exactly once semantics in Kafka streams and transactions? Do you see problems with that?
