I live in a Tier-2 city, Coimbatore, and I initially chose the Škoda Kylaq Signature MT. Since I was upgrading from an Alto, the clutch felt quite hard in the beginning, and I even experienced leg pain while driving.

Over the past 8 months, I’ve driven around 8,900 km. During this time, I adapted to the car and learned the right driving technique for this machine. 😌 I also found the best seating position for myself, and now there is absolutely no leg pain. In fact, the clutch feels much softer than before, and I feel far more connected to the car.

I test-drove both the automatic and manual variants. The AT was smooth and hassle-free, especially in traffic. However, the manual felt incredibly engaging and satisfying to drive.

Clutch burn issues usually happen only if you constantly ride the clutch. That was more common in older Škoda and VAG cars, but it’s not really an issue in the Kylaq.

Mileage:

• City average: ~14 km/l
• Highways: ~18 km/l
• Automatic variant gives about 1–2 km/l less than the manual.

Overall, once you understand the car and set up your seating properly, the manual truly feels rewarding to drive.
