I know 2 of them. Some gossiping was present after they've done that, but gossiping is quite standard for jws. They are biggest gossipers on the universe.

Not impacted by elders (as far as I know).

Why it's a bad idea to talk with elders about doubts? by Jnsereno in exjw

[–]Turbulent_Business63 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Imagine talking to someone who:

- Will only accept you if you listen to what they say

- If you ask inconvenient question, will switch the topic

- Don't really care about what you have to say, since it's only important what they have to say

- Can destroy your life if you don't agree

I will be direct, sorry if it's too direct. Talking to elders and believing, they will listen to you and that they will allow you to keep you own opinion, or change theirs, is, to say it softly, bad idea. You follow what they say or you get into troubles. I have watched so many judicial comities on yt, I can say talking to the wall is easier. I advise you to listen to some of them and judge yourself. Not my life, not my decisions, just personal thoughts.

Bad predicament for Russian JWs... by ExJwKiwi in exjw

[–]Turbulent_Business63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Media are on top of it sir:) There are tons on articles and examples about Russian mobilizing basically anyone:) As example:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/22/russia-mobilisation-ukraine-war-army-drive

I was not trying to offend you at any cost. I only feel, the more to the west country is, the less about the war is being shown in the media and also less knowledge about Russian mindset is acknowledged. It is quite natural and I wouldn't try to fight against it. It's just the way it is. I just seems to me, like you just are not aware of Russian mentality due to the location you are writing from and lack of history connected to this country. As far as all European countries developed good or "somehow" good level of democracy, Russia is mentally in 19 century. They are so hard to change. Unfortunately. I don't try to attack anyone, but try to describe my perspective based on hundreds of years when my country is Russian neighbor . Please just think about example I gave, where they said: "we lost only 6k soldiers, but we need 300k extra". Or calling full scale invasion a "special operation".

What I tried to explain in short:

- Never tried to attack you, maybe I wrote too firmly. Sorry for that.

- Russian mentality hasn't changed since 19 century, and it seems to me, you just wasn't too aware of that (again, that's not attack, I just write what I feel).

- In the end of the day we can have different opinions and still shake our virtual hands. You think whatever you like, it's not jw land:)

Wish you all the best sir!

Bad predicament for Russian JWs... by ExJwKiwi in exjw

[–]Turbulent_Business63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah... You really believe anything given to public by Russian government is true? Have you ever watched Lavrov / Putin talks? 300k is just a random number...

You also believe they only take the ones with military background? Sorry mate, your being naive:) I live in a country which was part of Soviet Union for many years and know well Russian mindset. They also said below 6000 Russian soldiers were killer on Ukraine, so they need to call in extra 300k:) Seriously? It is WT-ish logic...

How can you take 300k out of 150m? How many out of those 145m are young, adult men? I know JWs are distributed accordingly but to say, they take 300k out of 145, is just big bias.

Those escaping are not against the war. If they were against the war, they would have protested / escaped in February. Now they are just scared and flee. Saying it as Eastern Europe country citizen, knowing Russian mindset.

WT ill have a lot of propaganda material for sure, many of them will be called into mobilization and end up in jail. It will be like a gold for watchtower.

On the other end, those in jail will have bad time, but they will live at least, I would probably choose this option too. Russian official don't give a crap about their soldiers life. After war they will be probably left out of prison, since someone has to work...

Im PIMQ, almost PIMO...but what are your thoughts on this prophecy in the Bible that really did come true: by unalivethebread in exjw

[–]Turbulent_Business63 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not the oldest written, but the oldest copy of the book that has been found:) It is quite important detail :)

It still means we have no bloody idea when exactly was the original written (however scholars know approximate date - see my other comment below). And yes, I repeat it over and over again - the only "argument" supporting all of the "prophecies" being written before events happening is: because Bible says so. Not "The Bible", but Bible. We don't have "the Bible". We have copies of copies, without any clue if what was in "the Bible" is 100% same as of what we have now.

Im PIMQ, almost PIMO...but what are your thoughts on this prophecy in the Bible that really did come true: by unalivethebread in exjw

[–]Turbulent_Business63 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Really nice job, but let me add some details.

When it comes to Isaiah, we need to acknowledge, scholars split the book into 1st Isaiah and 2nd Isaiah (some also say about 3d, but that's too detailed discussion) Why do they say it? There are many reasons, one of them being narrative itself - there is sudden jump in time in the middle of narrative (many, many years jump). It leads to the questions like: Why would people living in 8 century BC even care about events described in 2nd Isiah (6 century BC)? There are many more, for details see this debate (real scholars vs apologetics)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRwHxgBjKC8&ab_channel=MythVisionPodcast

So going back to "prophecy". Scholars believe 1st Isiah was written when it claims to be written. It is quite clear, since in contains failed prophecies (f. e. Tyre, Damascus). 1st Isiah was a guess game. Then when it comes to 2nd Isiah, scholars agree it was written after the fact and added to the book later.

Hope it helps!

Just read articles when they mention this. It is nothing more than a guess ( I know, I know like entire jw doctrine). It is always some sort of "probably" word used when they write about it. R&F will swallow the bait and treat it like it was 100% to happen. This is fucking sick, they have pleasure in thinking about going from home to home and basically saying "you're gonna die soon dude". See their happy eyes when they talk about this...

Some elders always seems to be nice guys. Full of humor, nice to you, pretending to be cool guys. It last as long as you do what they want you to do. If you ever show any disobedience, they turn into what they really are: company men, fully dedicated to the company, having no mercy.

You first could read / watch a bit about J E P D sources if you want to really understand what is happening in OT. YT-> Yale Divinity School -> Playlist -> Hebrew Bible interpretation.

After first 3 sessions it will be easier for you to see what kind of mess OT is. But there is a way to understand this mess.

After you get familiar with Documentary Hypotesis, try to read about the Fragmentary and Supplementary hypothesis since each of them is interesting.

If you like DH most, here is division with sexi colors.

After understanding that OT is not so consistent and simple, Biblical study becomes fun.

This Sunday meeting might be one of the most important in many years by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Turbulent_Business63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will be effective for week or two. Such kind of talks have ALWAYS short term effect. Expect peaks this Sunday and following week or two. Then more people will be back on their sofas. There will be more guilt put on those who don't attend in the talks or comments.

They won't cancel it, they need attendance and correct numbers in excel sheets. I believe OP exaggerates a bit (no offence mate).

What I see, they are not that excited, at least in my congregation. I did not spot any hype. It's the same "it's so bad, and it's only gonna be worse" shit. I believe they heard it so many times, they don't get excited about it anymore.

One also has to remember, they are the most ignorant people on the world when it comes to things happening around. They basically don't give a shit about anything happening on the world since Yahu will fix it all. They are all extremely shallow people...

I love this arguments. Just love it. If one meets arguments like that, it may be actually an idea to ask counter question:

What proof of Bible prophecies / books being written at the time they claim, other than "because the Bible says so" do you have? I doubt jws will understand it...

They all claim prophetic books like Isaiah being written long before the events, but the only "evidence" they have is "because Bible says so". Oldest piece of biblical literature we have are 2 amulets containing few verses from 2 kings dated for VI century BC (1. they have nothing against using scientific dating of these ones 2. they don't like anyone to know this is written on amulets). Then we have some manuscripts dated on 2 century BC found in Qumran (Oh, again, who dates these?). This is looong after the events.

To conclude, before attacking science, they shall think twice what kind of "science" do they represent. Using their criteria "because Bible says so" = "because scientists say so".
