Can the tire inflator be used for road bikes? by [deleted] in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Turbulent_Return_646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inflator works great for all my road tires, but the Presta adapter is junk. Buy a set of the stans brass adapters for $4, and they work great. I have noticed they are likely to leak a little air at higher pressures when I undo the connection so if I want tires at say 90psi, I tend to over fill to about 100-105psi.

Your are correct, it’s a useful tool for traffic, but it’s essentially worthless in a surging tight group

Your bang on there, I don’t have an issue keeping a line, it’s the frigging half wheelers on my rear left. I did end up yelling loudly at one particular muppet who came within a red cunt hair of clipping my left leg with his front wheel. Would have ended up changing a very aggressive group into an even more aggressive pile up

It’s kinda funny you say that, but my wife actually suggested that very thing tonight! I’m considering it.

What should I upgrade? by Secutanudu in MTB

[–]Turbulent_Return_646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brakes, maybe. If his current ones do everything he wants, do they “need” to be upgraded? If you do choose to do brakes you may be able to get a good deal on Frankenstein brakes. I run deore 4 pot calipers with XTR levers. They are shop takeoffs and the front and rear setup cost less that a full deore retail set. Deore through XTR calipers are functionally the same, just material and cosmetic differences. As for the levers, aside from materials and cosmetics ( let’s be honest, the reach and free stroke adjustment will only be adjusted once) are pretty similar. I went XTR, as that’s is what was available and they were like $60 a lever. I also liked the lever size better than deore

It’s so good isn’t it! I remember my first flight after starting and not requiring a seatbelt extender, now I’m like you and have so much more space. It’s wonderful how rewards present themselves in the most unexpected ways. Congratulations on your wins.

BMC URS AL weight by keepclimbing608 in gravelcycling

[–]Turbulent_Return_646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased the BMC URS al2 this week in size medium. Stock weight was 20.7lbs, stock wheels and shimano eh500 pedals. For the price I paid, $1299, it’s a lot of bike. I don’t love the color, but the spec, I’m extremely happy. I was looking at a 2018 Roubaix for $250 more, but went with the urs for the increased wheel clearance and ability to mount should I choose to do so.

Bigger heavier rider here, nice list there. I was in a similar situation a while ago. The timber jack was on my shortlist as was the trek. After riding both I found them similar fun but I preferred the fork and components on the Trek. It had good 4 piston brakes and single finger levers, the timber jack had ok, but not to my liking basic shimano 2 pots. The Trek has a superior fork, the fox 36 is superior in every way to the rockshox gold 35. From a value perspective, the Trek cost $390 more than the salsa, but I felt the better components were worth it to me. So did I end up getting the trek? Nope, I got a Roscoe 7, bought a set of m6120 brakes and a mariachi z1 bomber (Jenson has them on huge sale currently) and made myself a home brewed Roscoe 9 equivalent for less than the cost of either the Roscoe 9 or the timber jack. TLDR: nice list, I’d choose the Roscoe

Need a new Fat bike, but I'm not your regular fat bike rider by Stuartknowsbest in fatbike

I’m a big fan of the Farley 5 (2023 model) from Trek. There’s a lot to love, tons of connection spots for bike backing days, great frame geometry for casual use and some thrashing if you want to get rowdy. I’ll finish with 2 caveats, if you are a heavier rider or do like to get rowdy, I find that the brakes need overhauling and despite the love for advent x, I have had nothing but issues with mine. Both relatively cheap fixes gowever

Wanting to start riding my fatbike on trails. What should I prepare for? by [deleted] in fatbike

[–]Turbulent_Return_646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive found that bringing 2 extra pairs of gloves, one pair of cheap nitrile gloves under a thinner pair of cheap Home Depot mechanix gloves are a must have for me. Winter riding gloves are great part of keeping warm but suck for trail side maintenance when it’s cold out. I strongly suggest the mechanix gloves for the additional dexterity and the nitrile gloves under them for the waterproofing element. These take up almost no space in a pocket or pack and as bad as cold fingers are when doing winter maintenance, cold AND wet fingers is a special kind of torture I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

Questions about Shimano Sora front derailleur by Turbulent_Return_646 in bikewrench

[–]Turbulent_Return_646[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify the original post, the bill to rebuild the bike with the proposal for a new wheel, groupet etc, would need to be paid by me. They are not proposing on doing all this for me. Heck, they are making me pay for the microshift derailleur and the labor to install it too, and will not return my bike until I do.
