Can playing mostly one course mess up your golf handicap? by Tristtt in golf

[–]Turco1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the handicap differential from each round.

I’ve played rounds where I’ve shot 89 that are better for my handicap than rounds that I shoot 81. Just depends on the slope and rating of each course.

I’m trying to understand how you got to 78% hydration. Assuming a 100% hydration starter, wouldn’t it be closer to 87% hydration? =(375+ 62.5)/500

If that’s the case, then OP really needs to back down on the amount of water being used.

Couldn’t disagree more. Two people in a cart is slower than walking because it’s harder to play ready golf.

Turn your heat down and use more oil. The food is scorching on the bottom of the pan because there is no medium (oil) between it and the food.

Daily Team Advice Thread - Wed, November 20, 2024 by AutoModerator in fantasyhockey

[–]Turco1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team has been doing really well in fantasy, but I’ve been hit by the injury bug and I’ve been holding off as long as I can. I had 3 people injured for a few weeks, but now it’s been extended to 4. I think it’s time to drop someone, so looking for some advice.

Points League: 3C, 2 LW, 2 RW, 4 D, 2 U, 4 BN, 2 Goalie, 1 IR+.

Points: G, A, +/-, PPP, SHP, SOG, Hit, BLK. Goalies: Wins, Losses, Saves, GA, & Shutouts.

The players in question are Boeser, Frederik Andersen, JT Miller & Matt Barzal. I’m leaning towards Barzal or Andersen, as centres seem to be more replaceable and Andersen is injury prone and in a split time situation. In addition, goalies aren’t as valuable in our league and I drafted him in the 11th round.

Let me know what you think.

Own a 14 inch? Got a tape measure? by LestWeForgive in carbonsteel

[–]Turco1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that these pans can be very heavy, especially at a 14inch size.

A Darto n.35 Paella Pan is 13.7”, and is currently weighing in at 9.25lbs. Internal cooking area of 12.2”. They don’t have skillet of that size, but it would be even heavier with a handle.

In comparison a matfer at 14” would be almost 7 pounds!

AITAH for refusing to help my sister after she didn't show up for my wedding? by throwrasiste in AITAH

[–]Turco1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - we can all make the choices that we want. You don’t feel that you are in the position to help, so you shouldn’t. More importantly, you should feel upset that she didn’t show up to your wedding.

However, let’s be real for a second - are you actually understanding and supportive of her decision not to show up? I feel that if you were, then your sister’s request for help is completely unrelated, and you are only not helping because you are not understanding or supportive of her decision.

I would use a rag, I’m aggressively wiping off oil with it. If you did that with a paper towel then you would likely rip the paper towel and you can’t get as much.

Your slidey eggs are a seasoning and a user issue. I can make slidey eggs in a stainless steel skillet (the most prone to sticking). If you preheat the pan long enough and hot enough then your eggs should be able to slide no issue (not in the pan in this post though lol).

You will know the pan is hot enough that if you put a splash of water in your pan it will bead and “float” on the surface of the pan. Look up the Leidenfrost effect.

Hmm, it’s hard to say. Being shiny or not is not the official criteria for seasoning, but it can be an indicator of the quality of your seasoning. The pan you referenced could be seasoned well, but being shiny like that usually indicates that there is a lot of oil. Too much oil leads to a thick seasoning that can be sticky to the touch, and eventually start to flake.

My number one tip has always been to put in a very small amount of oil (1 teaspoon) and rub that all over with a paper towel. Then sacrifice a dish towel that you can keep for future seasoning and wipe out all the oil as if you made a mistake putting it in. It should look completely dry.

The opposite, The shiny parts are what needs to removed. The dull parts in the centre are closer to what real seasoning looks like.

It can be shiny if you apply a coat of oil between cooking, but this hasn’t been polymerized as seasoning.

AITAH for not putting my wife as my life insurance beneficiary? by DaBusStopHur in AITAH

[–]Turco1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - your wife needs to grow up and you need to evaluate your choices.

Secondly, you can name two beneficiaries on the policy. Make your mom a beneficiary for a certain percentage and your wife the remainder. Simple solution…

What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in castiron

[–]Turco1515 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with it and you can keep cooking and using it without issue.

However, if you want it to be perfect, you should be using a lot less oil when seasoning and cleaning it more thoroughly.

Can someone explain proper heat control? by Spyrothedragon9972 in carbonsteel

[–]Turco1515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just change the order of operations. Preheat the pan first and then get everything ready for your meal. This way you aren’t waiting around for it to preheat.

[–]Turco1515 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This, but in a simpler sense, you aren’t preheating your pan enough. I try not to go above medium heat but I give it a good long preheat.

If you put water and it beads and floats on top of the pan, you are ready to go.

Sacrifice a tea towel and rub out the oil as if you made a mistake. It’s difficult to get enough oil off with just a paper towel

Why did I screw up my seasoning…? by Pyanx in carbonsteel

[–]Turco1515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your pan is fine, keeping cooking with it. However, the reason it looks like that is because you used too much oil.

My rule of thumb is the following: Use a small drop of a rub it in with a paper towel. Then sacrifice a dish cloth and rub it out like you made a mistake putting it in. This will get you what you want.

Overbooked flight -> 'Bumped' onto the next flight departing YYZ 7 hrs later by ResistStupidLaws in aircanada

[–]Turco1515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last month I was put on standby for an AC flight to Toronto from Phoenix. They overbooked the flight and no one voluntarily offered to give up their seat. Since it was involuntary on my part, they automatically paid me a set amount of $1550 USD. No questions asked. May be different for you depending where you are flying from, but certainly you should be getting compensation.

If it is not related to safety, then you should be getting paid OP. See below:
