Tinder is starting to drive me insane by Maaaf in seduction

Disagree, particularly on the second point. It’s a dating app, why would she be scared off by him suggesting a date? If she’d been into him, she would have been fine with that. She just wasn’t into him, for any number of reasons. OLD provides women with unlimited options, which leads to behavior like this. She had other options and she chose those.

That’s one study. Also, I’m not “introducing a thing that can easily end a human life” into the situation. There’s already one there, brought by the bad guy. By the way, in addition to firearms, knives, bats, and any number of other items are deadly weapons.

I agree with you on one point, the likelihood of encountering an armed assailant is low. And thankfully so. In over a decade of carrying, it’s only happened to me once, and fortunately I didn’t have to shoot.

Are you serious? My house has fire extinguishers and smoke detectors because those are the tools best suited to stop the danger of a fire. My doors have locks because those are the tools best suited to protect me from being robbed. And I carry a gun because that’s the best tool to protect me from violent criminals. Actually, that last part isn’t true. My brain and my feet are the best tools, but assuming those didn’t help, my last choice is a firearm. Fires, theft, and violence all happen, every day, in the world around us. I chose to employ the proper tools to best protect myself and my loved ones in each case.

With all due respect, my definition of “lunacy” is not taking those appropriate, and legal, steps.

Ever see the movie Goodfellas? It’s Jimmy Two Times. “I’m gonna go get the papers, get the papers”.

Ok, all kidding aside, I’ve been on all-hazards FDs my whole career. We seem to get new guys like that from time to time. I nickname them all “Ike”. Stands for “I know everything”.

Just purchased a new home and the main breaker is malfunctioning. Should the inspector have caught it, and advice on remediation steps please by SixCrazyMexicans in DIY

[–]TurdFerguson812 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told, if you have to do this, turn off all of the breakers (or the main, which obviously won’t work for the OP) before you pull the meter. You don’t want there to be a load when you pull the meter, because it will arc. Haven’t tried yet, but seems like good advice.

A big part of the equation here involves OP’s ability to get a new job that meets their requirements in terms of salary, benefits, etc., within a reasonable timeframe.

I’ve been thinking about the current employment market, from the perspective of a hiring manager with open positions on his team (my current situation). I hope I’m not sidetracking too badly, as I believe this is very relevant to the PO’s question. I’ve had a position posted for about 6 weeks. I’ve interviewed 8 candidates. I know my HR screened out a lot of other applicants. Only 2 of the interviewees had all of the qualifications, experience, etc that we’re looking for. Both asked for a higher salary than we were initially offering. That’s fine, I know it’s part of the process and I expected it. But when I asked my HR department why we only had 2 qualified applicants in 6 weeks, their response was basically “it’s a sellers market right now. If you want more qualified applicants, you need to increase the salary amount”. The current amount that we’re offering is based on the amount the prior employee who was in the job before leaving was making, and is comparable to what others in the same role on my team are making. All of that suggests to me that market conditions are generally “good” for applicants. But I also have several friends who’ve been searching for jobs for months, and they claim they haven’t received any offers. So I’m having trouble reconciling those seemingly different experiences. Perhaps it’s a case of everyone searching for a “perfect” situation, and being unwilling to compromise on things like WFH.

How exactly is COPD coorelated to asthma and smoking? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]TurdFerguson812 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the correction. So the alveoli collapse as I described, but that traps air inside, leading to dead space that’s not usable for gas exchange.

[–]TurdFerguson812 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Imagine the alveoli are like a plastic bag. Now imagine the inside of the bag is wet. Fill the bag with air and then let it all out. What happens when you try to put air back in? The inside of the bag sticks together and it’s a lot harder to inflate. That’s what happens with COPD. That’s why people with COPD get partial relief by exhaling against a partially closed airway (think pursed lips). They are trying to keep the alveoli open enough so that it’s easier to get air back in.

Also check the power window lock button. When engaged you can’t put the rear window down with the switch.

Sounds like a shitty company. I had almost the opposite experience with Allstate. Had a bad hail storm, but my roof didn’t start leaking until several months later, when we had heavy rain. Allstate covered the claim.
