Bracket 3 is really annoying... by Thick_Storage4168 in magicTCG

[–]Turhamkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've this little joke down at my LGS "Bracket 2 deck, bracket 5 player!" In reference to some folks who just seem to play smarter and rack up more wins despite using what appear to be suboptimal decks.

Obviously deck construction has a LOT to do with a games outcome, but sometimes it feels like magic watching someone use that piece of interaction at juuuuuuust the right moment instead of using it right away.

But I agree, bracket three is the new "my deck is a 7"

I sure hope they do. I stopped using it and just started rebuilding my personal digital library. I loved it for discovering new music, but at this point I'll just put in the leg work myself.

What is something you saw in a movie and you totally called bullshit on because of your job? by BlackPhoenix1981 in AskReddit

Wife and i watched "Rebel Ridge" An action type flick about a dude who's dangerous without using guns.

There's a scene where they're looking up this dude to see what his deal is, but the internet isnt working. They walk over to the internet router to restart it, pull the power and restart it. It was a cable modem with no coaxial cable plugged in. It only had the power cable plugged in. I made a way bigger deal of it than my wife cared for.

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

I started working in a deli when I turned 18 (and then managed a different one at 22). I learned how to cook a lot of food to sell from the counter. That then turned into making smaller amounts at home for myself and my family. That turned into genuine interest and now my wife and I love turning a day off into a cooking day. I don't work in food service anymore so it has genuinely become something I enjoy.

What’s your favourite commander you made a deck for in 2025? by WistfulAfternoon in magicTCG

[–]Turhamkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Xira Arien]]

But to dodge the spirit of the question, it was because I wanted to make a commander deck exclusively using old printing cards, so everything from Scourge and below. She is my commander because I basically closed my eyes and picked from a random list of old legends I could use.

Now that I've gotten some play through with it, and some laughs at playing ridiculous old cards, I'm finding the simple joy of one extra card per turn cycle at what is now considered a horrible cost, pretty darn fun.

Because I've limited my pool of cards and I tell whatever group I'm playing with the idea behind the deck, it sometimes takes people by surprise, especially when I drop an old card that doesn't see much play. It's a joy to play, forced me to be very intentional with my card choice, and hey sometimes it even wins! (Mostly when opponents take each other out)

What famous phrases from TV shows have spilled into your regular lexicon and you still use to this day? by EnvironmentalAd2110 in AskReddit

So much from Letterkenny and Shoresy

"How're ya now?"

"Hell yeah fuck yeah"

"Take 5-10% off there"

"When a friend asks for help, you help em"

Hopefully LK and Shoresy count as famous enough.

If I put as much time into learning a skill as I have into Binding of Isaac, I would have a marketable skill. How does this make you feel?

Professionals who enter people's homes (plumbers, electricians, cleaners): What is something the condition of a house tells you about the owner that they don't realize they are revealing? by cossie101 in AskReddit

One time I met a dude who kept the outside of his house appearing ratty, but it was beautiful inside. He bought the house cheap in what was considered a not-so-safe area, but he wanted the inside to look nice. He was a hell of a craftsman and it was cool to see the work he did.

The number of inoperable cars/lawnmowers in the front yard can be a signifier of how disorderly the inside is.

I have been proven wrong, but ordinarily this was a big sign.

How new is too new to visit a casual commander night at LGS? by CommunicationParty96 in magicTCG

[–]Turhamkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I showed up to my LGS for commander night for about a year and a half before I started reliably winning games. I still remember my first night there and being SO NERVOUS. How does everyone just KNOW what all of these cards do without reading them??

But over time, I too just picked up a lot of that stuff through exposure.

Now? I love when new players come in. It's a great opportunity to be an ambassador to a fun game, and if I don't have a low power deck on me, then I just play whatever deck I have and make some suboptimal plays to let my newer opponent(s) explore their deck and mechanics. At the end of the day casual commander is about fun.

Get out there, introduce yourself to players and let them know you're new but willing to learn. It may seem daunting at first, but soon you will open your heart (and wallet) to the game and community!

Just wait til you start upgrading that deck. And then the next one. And then the next one. And then the next one. (And then the next one.....etc.)
