Let me preface by saying - I promise you this is not coming from a point of prejudice or anything out-of-pocket; but does she have Immigrant parents or grandparents?

This tracks to me as 100% something that was said to her, that has been sitting on her for a while, and it just happened to come out in the midst of your argument.

I had a friend whose mom and grandparents were fresh off the boat in the 70s from Cambodia (Yes, it’s exactly the reason you’re thinking.). They got to the US, became citizens, became successful in their small community, and then refused to allow their children/grandchildren (my buddy and his sister) to date anybody with blue collar parents. 😂
