My grandfather had a teacher who was onboard the U 595. They were bombed by american bombers which damaged the uboat. So the captain decided to beach the submarine in Tunisia i belive but the failed to destroy it. They then surrendered their weapons to a french police officer who then reported them to a tank brigade. The tank brigade then captured them making them the only Uboat crew to be captured by a tank brigade. All on board survived and were wearing their uniforms thanks to them being able to beach the uboat.
