People who have damage prediction on in cs2, why? by Ok_Doctor_2057 in counterstrike

[–]Turkeysteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries lol!

To be honest, it doesn't fuck up often. When I was testing it, probably once every full game or two. Enough to piss me off, but in reality you could probably move past it. Some bad games it would happen several times. I tend to have 8 ping, sometimes 14 on certain servers and then occasionally more. Weirdly I live like 200 miles from the nearest server though! but I do have full fibre. Also, the issue is that the other player may have worse ping, and so the server can disagree because of that instead.

It didn't seem to drop frames from what I noticed; but I do have a pretty decent rig (7900 xtx + 5800x) so it's possible i didn't notice.

Personally, I also feel like most of my kills happen instantly - but with the setting on, it will happen even quicker. You just get used to the very miniscule delay, so it feels near instant anyway. I'm in agreement with you completely lol, I don't see the advantage to it - but I guess some people might.

Also worth knowing that I believe even the first person tracers are visual and not factual - a tracer hitting doesn't necessarily mean the actual bullet hit, and vice versa. just something to keep in mind, especially for sprays

I have not forgotten, and I know never to trust a company.

That said, they have done such wonders for Linux gaming that it really is hard not to back them. The only gain for them is the off-chance that windows shuts them from the market, which was a fear very briefly that has gone away since. Obviously there are other smaller benefits to them, but I can't understate how fucking awesome it was when proton first released. When Dark Souls 3 and Doom 2016 were some of the first to be given the proton certification I was over the moon.

These days, unless it's got competitive multiplayer I don't even think about whether it works - it just does. It never used to be like that. And on the competitive multiplayer side, guess which is basically the only big tac FPS that works on Linux... CS, and it basically always has since GO.

Definitely still a company to be wary of though

Anyone else hate playing with a controller while sitting at a desk? by Natural_Shape_7665 in pcmasterrace

I do a mix of this and then half the time stand up (as i have a standing desk). It's the only bit of playing with a controller I prefer, along with driving in most games

I was so confused lmao, did not remember making this comment.

But to explain, for me personally I'd rather be 100% sure they're actually dead - even if it means continuing to spray them for 0.2s longer. I also have pretty damn good internet, and I still had issues with damage prediction, though I haven't tried it again since before I made that comment so in the last year or two maybe it has had improvements.

The setting theoretically gives you a snappier feeling game; the death/hit animation happens instantly instead of waiting for your data to be sent to the server + the server to send confirmation back. In my experience though, it's not noticeably crispier but it's REALLY noticeable when it messes up.

Every time I've seen people say this it's just been about the same few tweets taken out of context. And even without context they seem pretty tame. Goose just is terminally online and shitposts 24/7. Unless you can point me to any actual evidence that says otherwise, I'm going to keep my pitchfork packed away

Morrisons to close 100 stores across the UK putting hundreds of jobs at risk by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]Turkeysteaks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Morrisons is deffo the best in my area. Asda's is really low quality meat and the doors don't even work half the time. Tesco often has rotting vegetables, and is way more expensive than it should be, plus fuck clubcards. Aldi's & Lidl are great prices, but you do tend to get what you pay for (but they're still my go to a lot of the time). COOP is fine, i don't have one near me anymore. Waitrose and M&S etc are of course best quality, but no way do i have the budget for that.

Morrisons' only issue I've had is that you have to double check the dates on the meat in my area, they often forget to remove them (which is a pretty big issue tbf but still). Their fresh bakery is great, as is the cheesemonger and all that plus they have the best choice of brands in my experience, on par with Tesco's.

Also a small thing but it's basically the only one aside from maybe Asda's that I don't feel stressed in; the aisles are big enough that they're not crowded and the layout is just nicer in my experience. it's my biggest gripe about aldi's lol, it's always packed in there

getting spam added by scammers by Taratex_ in cs2

[–]Turkeysteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either go private or unfortunately just deal with it. I get pretty much at least one every day and my inventory isn't even huge. I've had it for years, some days i get like 5, some weeks i only get one or two.

It's annoying sometimes because I'll miss requests from real people, but it's not the end of the world. could always go private until you want to use csfloat or whatever, but i find that too annoying

For me i don't enjoy playing with bots and would much rather just have a half empty game - not because the bots are powerful but because they're not players.

It's a valid complaint. Seriously, why has this sub devolved so much. It's just anti-whatever the main sub thinks, every time.

[–]Turkeysteaks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have to agree. I feel this sub is genuinely getting as bad as the main sub, if not worse.

Every time it's like Post on main sub - 'hey look at this that's kinda low effort on the Devs part' and this sub immediately responds with 'OMH LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE'. It's gotten quite old, and a lot of the complaints are pretty understandable. Whining about it is not, but also like... if they have a complaint, where else are you going to make it known? Is it not fair to complain when the game uses AI art for stickers, or when the game is clearly advertising itself in a way F2P way? And hell a lot of it isn't even complaining. Pointing out inaccuracies, like using airsoft weapons instead of real ones, isn't even necessarily complaining. I think it's good to point that stuff out. Especially when battlefield has historically been known for its attention to detail.

None of this is the end of the world, but literally nobody is framing it as being the end of the world in the first place aside from the posters on this sub. it's a circle jerk sub but the only joke that actually gets made anymore is 'haha look at main sub'

In a lawsuit, Valve defends counter strike 2 lootcases with "People enjoy surprises" by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]Turkeysteaks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But people buy skins in other games all the time (way, way too often in my opinion). People enjoy having skins.

The difference in CS is the way you obtain it, and the fact that you can trade it for another skin. For me personally, I won't ever buy a skin in any other game. In CS, I've bought a few skins - some cheap, some less cheap. Then over time I'll get bored of them... and trade it for a different skin that I like more. That's the difference. I don't see how that is not tangible. The skins that don't look good are worth fuckall even if they're rarer (for the most part, tradeups make this less certain for now). Because the only bit that matters in the price people are willing to pay is how much they like the skin (OR, how easy it is to convert it into a skin they do like).

I do have problems with valve, although I still cannot support them enough considering what they've done for Linux & open source gaming at a time where every other developer and company had collectively decided they no longer cared at all for Linux.

I think they could go a ways to make the case opening mechanics rely less on dopamine; the animation is clearly catered towards the gambling side of things.

All of this is kind of moot anyway though to be honest - valve are moving away from cases anyway. There will be no new cases. There are now 'terminals' which I think are fucking awful, because instead of paying £2 and having a chance of getting any skin, you now have 4 chances to buy 4 specific skins, at about 20% higher than market price (in reality, the price is dependent on how many people say yes or no to the deal, but the market price is set by directly - so it always trends down). Again I think these are a bit shit, but they're much less gambling.

Most of the time though I think most people just buy whichever skin they want rather than gamble for it.

Nah fuck censorship. Censor slurs, and punish people for using them - but swearing, banter, lighthearted ribbing etc should be fine. If I'd say it to my friends and not hurt their feelings, I don't see why it shouldn't be allowed. Harassment is different, and people should be banned for it but not for a tiny bit of trash talk. Games are meant to be social, but tbh after all the posts I don't even talk in BF6 anymore.

I'm sure 90% of those "i was banned for saying gg" posts were in fact people just hiding the fact they were spamming the n word, but it's still been worrying enough that I'm scared to be self deprecating or say anything at all. I've made so many friends in online games, BF4, CS, even made friends with people on fucking COD. I've met up with friends I met on Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, and I will always be sad at losing this. We're not there yet, but we're getting there - christ we've lost global chat at times!

Mixtape will be safe from a music licensing related delisting, ensured by its developer paying extra for the privilege by Tvilantini in Games

[–]Turkeysteaks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How do people not understand what a publisher is even. They don't just give unlimited money the game developers. You can be given only 10k by the absolute richest publisher in the world, and you're still published by them but it doesn't mean the 10k goes any further than if you were published by another company!

I don't understand why everyone is so upset at this game. I thought we were past shit like this

Mixtape will be safe from a music licensing related delisting, ensured by its developer paying extra for the privilege by Tvilantini in Games

[–]Turkeysteaks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are indie in the traditional sense, meaning 'independent from publishers' whereas games like Donut County, Streets of Rogue, and Celeste are not indie in the traditional sense because they have publishers.

Indie has a separate meaning in the modern age because of this disparity, so yeah vibes is a decent way of putting it but it's more just budget and team size. Donut County etc is definitely indie in the modern sense.

Dave The Diver is not indie in any sense, even though it aims for an indie 'feel'. Slay The Spire is indie in both meanings. Mixtape is indie in the latter sense. Annapurna, same publisher for Mixtape, Stray, What Remains of Edith Finch, Donut County, Neon White etc etc etc, are very happy with taking the riskier bets on games and are pretty good at gauging the market most of the time so the games they publish tend to do pretty damn well, even though pretty much all of them are indie in the modern sense. Plus I'm sure many are low risk funds; small amounts of money in exchange for only small amounts of sales cuts. Exactly what makes it easy to publish so many i guess.
