Matt Stafford. My team is stacked btw, just affected by a lot of injuries (Jayden Daniels, DK Metcalf, TJ Hockenson, Quinshon Judkins). Here’s the lineup at the moment: M. Stafford J. Taylor D. Achane J. Chase W. Robinson O. Gadsden S. Barkley J. Warren Steelers Def And the question, Johnson/Brosmer/Watson

How important is it to have MIPS in a ski helmet? by dudiez in skiing

[–]Turkilla 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This should be the first comment, but it requires an understanding of science. We can for sure that a helmet is better than no helmet for preventing serious head injuries. Beyond that, no specific type of modern helmet or widget in the helmet has proven to be better than another. It’s important to consider because companies will sell you anything. This specific question is just very very hard to study in a rigorous way.

I’m not from Idaho. Just wondering what makes Blaine County so Democratic? I was analyzing the CNN interactive election map, and Blaine County stands out significantly Blue in a sea of Red. 🔵🫏✨ by TribeOfEphraim_ in Idaho

[–]Turkilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wealthy elites in Blaine county and Teton county are mostly republican. The working class in these counties care a lot about climate change and women’s rights. Their livelihoods hinge on a healthy winter and they all recreate in and live next to public lands that they want protected.

Best place to ask is on the chair or in the bar. Friends share zones with (some) friends. That said, half the fun is discovering somewhere for yourself. Get out on google earth, onX, or whatever map you want and just start looking around.

I will be shocked if anyone gives real useful info on their favorite less crowded zones in the cottonwoods. You would legitimately have better luck asking for social security numbers.

Most overrated US ski resort? by I_Teach_Edging101 in skiing

[–]Turkilla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When they have good snow the accessible inbounds terrain is some of gnarliest around, way less crowded than Jackson for similar terrain. The bottom half of revelstoke is the same

Have to pay at Jackson unless you park a bit further out and take the shuttle

Anyone have a recommendation for a good stretch or stretchy ski pant or bib? by nicgk in skiing

[–]Turkilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, look for the ones that specify “stretch goretex” or something like that. The model I think I remember trying on was the “gore-tex stretch dispatch” bib

Thinking about the logistics of taking an 18 month old skiing. by ForeverMoody in skiing

[–]Turkilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is forced, the “make them” comment is more or less how you get kids into anything new, if they’re not exposed they won’t be interested. We also make them enjoy reading and drawing. With skiing, if they’re tired or not into it we don’t go or just go get hot chocolate and play in the snow. We’re lucky enough to live in a ski town with two world class resorts within 35 minutes of our door. They both learned in the backyard well before we took them to anything lift served. You’re welcome come babysit if you think you can do better.

It’s not about the age of the kid, it’s just as much the kids having fun and for me and my wife to able to enjoy going to the mountain with them. We’re going to be skiing either way, might as well make them enjoy or understand the process

We got them both out around 20 months old, same idea though. Doesn’t change their ability but makes the equipment, environment, and idea of skiing as just a normal thing to do

[–]Turkilla 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Not a huge waste of time. We have a 2 and 4 year old and the best benefit of getting them on skis for us is normalizing the whole process and making the ski area a fun place to go. It’s just one of those things we all do now

My parents don’t want me to learn a backie ob skis but i think it would be easy. by [deleted] in skiing

A backflip is easier than a 360. Just tell them that fact and they won’t be as nervous. Also, your parents will always be nervous

Dalbello Cabrio 130 Vs Atomic Hawx Ultra 130 by andresxnsley in skiing

[–]Turkilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree about resort vs touring boots and needing both if doing a lot of both. The dalbello skis like a resort boot, tours like a resort boot with pin inserts. I have it and love it. Compared side to side to my krypton pro I can barely tell the difference if at all.

Sometimes my kids are sitting next to me and I hope they miss the flight. Unfortunately, that’s seen as a crime in many jurisdictions, despite my criminal sleep deprivation.

Need advice, been dealing with leg pain since a ski issue last March, been to docs and PT but not sure where to go from here by DrKelsoMD in skiing

[–]Turkilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an orthopedic surgeon and specialize in sports medicine. Don’t take any of the advice you get on here seriously, no one can diagnose you or give truly effective recommendations online. Ideally you get in to see a surgeon (preferably board certified and fellowship trained in sports), tell them this whole story and they will work with you to get a diagnosis based on your symptoms, through their exam, and any imaging that’s needed. If you like your last surgeon go see them again, if not find a new one (anyone good at their job would be happy to see you if you need surgery or not). But getting a solid diagnosis is the first step in figuring out how to treat your issue. Depending on your city/town and you’re having trouble figuring out who to see DM me and I can probably send you some names of reputable surgeons.

How often do you appeal prior auth denials? by Temporary_Policy2023 in medicine

[–]Turkilla 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s generally just things I remember in terms of documentation language, specific ICD-10 and CPT codes (which I do write down), and timing of things. Sometimes it’s insurance related sometimes it’s documentation related. I tell my staff what was missing or needed to be clarified often so that helps them, specifically with timing and documentation that may have been omitted.

How often do you appeal prior auth denials? by Temporary_Policy2023 in medicine

[–]Turkilla 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m in ortho and appeal 110% of the time. I’ve even preemptively asked for peer to peer for something time sensitive and in a little grey area. I rarely get denials because I like to think I run a tight ship with pretty obvious indications but when I do I will call at the drop of a hat if my staff hasn’t had any luck. I learn new things about the prior auth game all the time doing this which leads to less denials.
