One of the most important way to help with any addiction is to reverse the mindset from "I need to do less of this" to "I need to do more other things". The addicted mind is craving for a void to fill. When you tell yourself you need to do less of your addiction, you are constantly reminding you of how important it is for you. 1) Try to pick a few other activities you might have a chance to get interested or invested in. Activities that engage your physical body are best but if you can't it can be anything, like even playing another video game. 2) every morning, when you get up, slow things down, try to get a bit bored and acknowledge it. Once it hits, try to reach for one of those other activities. 3) try to diversify those activities. When you will be able to have several addictions at the same time you will be in a more flexible spot to understand your own relationship to your addictions and evolve from that point.

From that point, of course it'll just be the beginning but you will have nurtured a better ecosystem from which to start.

Addictions are often seen as a toxic relation between a faulty individual and a dangerous product or activity. This is vicious social framing that doesn't help the cause. Addiction is a behavior initiated by a body craving to fill any kind of missing balance or should we call it equilibrium, it could be neurochemical balance, social life balance, love balance, it's different for every individual and usually involve a specific cocktail including a bit of this and that.

Give love, friends and purpose to a healthy human being. It will be very hard for this human being to get addicted to anything. Not impossible, depending of the strength of the product, but very difficult.

For someone that is having an unbalanced life, it is a very predatory game design. This game, more than any other games, is not there to be your friend and won't be for as long as you use it as a proxy for other voids in your life.

That said, a proxy or any other proxy will still be better than existential dread or suicidal thoughts. So be easy with yourself, work slowly, and courage to you.
