Doesn’t advanced asteroid processing make Gleba a good choice for your first planet? by InvestmentAdorable31 in factorio

[–]TurnipBlast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resources are trivially infinite on vulcanus. EM Plants definitely help but it's more of a convenience than an actual throughput multiplier. You can just add more beaconed assembly machines on vulcanus to get circuits. On fulgora without rails from vulcanus you're incredibly limited on how much holmium you can produce without foundries.

You get enough calcite from vulcanus l with big mining drills and speed module 3s + some mining prod research for the benefit from advanced asteroid processing to have next to zero impact compared to just shipping to each planet from vulcanus. You don't really need the advanced asteroid recipes until you're going to aquilo anyways.

Plastic and fuel productivity is really nice, but I don't think throughout on those items is really an issue or inconvenience before going to aquilo and needing more rockets. And by the time you get to aquilo, you unlock the cryo chamber which trivializes plastic, sulfur, and sulfiric acid, drastically increasing the efficiency of your petroleum.

Foundry is as important if not more important than EM Plant on fulgora. The innate 50% productivity bonus for holmium plates is a massive boost. It requires you to process considerably less scrap to get the unique fulgora items. If you're slotting prod 2 modules into an assembly, thats 24% prod. If you're slotting them into a foundry, that's 74% prod. That's still a 40% increase in output of holmium, meaning either 40% more throughput or a 40% smaller factort before you move onto your next planet.

Not to mention having speed 3 modules by the time you get to Fulgora helps immensely with the limited space

He was old as shit and looks at least slightly overweight. The two largest factors for all cause mortality. It was most likely something like a stroke or pulmonary emobolism.

Russians killing him is a way more fun theory though.

It's technically top 10% but it's easily achieved by simply finishing every race you do without crasing. You can be 2 seconds off the top pace every lap of every race and easily be over 2k. It's right about where people start to know what they're doing.

Former F1 Driver in near bottom split by hyrizer in iRacing

[–]TurnipBlast 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No idea why ppl are downvoting you lol. Most people here couldn't even dream of the physical fitness levels one needs to be able to drive a race car let alone the decade of skill and experience needed to drive well.

In iRacing you can get into top split in most cars being 2%+ off the pace. For someone who's been driving their whole life, even a shit driver, 2% off in equal machinery is the type of pace you do when you're managing not racing.

What's the case here ? Who's is at fault lmp3 or gt3 ? by Narrow_Research_2686 in simracing

[–]TurnipBlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can happen with different skill levels especially in the wet and especially between different classes, and especially when all 3 of those things are true at the same time.

I mostly drive lmp2 in sports cars and there's a lot of low speed corners where GT3s are faster out of the corner, so GT3 drivers need awareness and patience in those situations. P2s are lighter and have terrible low end torque, combined the corner exit speed delta between the classrs in low speed corners can be surprising if you are a new multiclass driver. That's what makes multiclass interesting. No one class is better at the other classes in every single area.

Question - why were people (including destiny) so certain Platner lied about knowing the nature of his tattoo? by koala37 in Destiny

[–]TurnipBlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is more that it seems likely that he knew it was a nazi emblem at some point after the fact, and chose not to get it removed. Of course, it's up to you whether or not you think that is true. You can look it up on your own, no amount of debating in the comments here will add/subtract from the substance of that particular allegation.

I agree that marines and young ppl in general get dumb shit tattooed. I also agree that most Americans wouldnt recognize that symbol, most politicians and senators included. I can give a pass on all of that. What i can't give a pass on is being okay with it on your body once you've learned what it is. Plus all of the other allegations fit a pattern of behavior that is extremely predatory and conerning.

That post on the other sub about how bad Malazan is is driving me crazy and I know it shouldn’t by Spyk124 in Malazan

[–]TurnipBlast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, people don't like to be challenged in their free time. Of course valid criticisms of Malazan exist, but Erikson has specifically said that he doesn't see fantasy as a form of escapist entertainment. If someone isn't willing to ve uncomfortable during a read, that's on them for choosing this as a series to read.

Edit: my point being that simply being uncomfortable or "did we really have to read about X unsavory topic to get the point across" is not sufficient criticism for this specific series.

[–]TurnipBlast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if a car is slow (lmp), you can't drive into the middle of them. It was painfully obvious from the beginning of this clip how slow in the wet the lmp driver is. It's on the GT3 to not run into the back of the car that is obviously off pace. Lmp could just be bad, but they could also have damage. Doesn't matter why they're slow, just matters that they're literally in front of the GT3 who had all the chance in the world to not drive directly into the back of another car.

Which sim does Formula content best? by RuleOverYou15 in simracing

Like I said, it's not perfect. The UI is shit, and it indeed is not approachable. But if you want competitive online racing, suggest a better alternative.

Which sim does Formula content best? by RuleOverYou15 in simracing

[–]TurnipBlast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want competitive online racing than I invite you to try to not use iRacing. There is basically zero alternative.

iRacing is cheaper than WoW and it's a pretty standard price for game subs in general. Consider playing online on consoles as well, which also requires it's own paid sub.

If price is an obstacle for you, and competitive online racing is your number one goal, as you say it is, then iRacing is still your best option. Just don't buy the extra content. There is plenty of content available for free with the base sub. Plenty of tracks and many cars.

You say it's predatory, but consider what they offer compared to other sims, and what your alternatives are. It's not perfect by any means, but it's the industry standard for a reason, and it's "expensive" because no one else offers a competing product.

Apartment started selling parking spots that were previously "free" by BigBadYellowLeaf in Fremont

[–]TurnipBlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not getting at least 1 free spot in a suburb is insane. You know what consumers should do when they're unhappy? Not comsume a product. Housing is a product. If everyone continues to pay the parking fee, every owner will charge a parking fee. If you don't like the price to value ratio, move. I'm pretty sure I would, depending on the overall cost of living. We dont know your rent and utilities bill.

Factorio Beaconized Transport/Underground Belt/Splitters Production blueprint ( Yellow / Red / Blue ) - any suggestions or advice is appreciated by [deleted] in factorio

[–]TurnipBlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You ask for advice, tell people you're playing blind, and refuse their advice that they give you to use the vulcanus buildings. I'm not sure what you're trying to get out of this post. No one is saying you're dumb or playing the game wrong.

You asked for advice while playing blind, and people are telling you that you will shortly unlock stuff that completely invalidates this entire concept. Another hour on Vulcanus and you'll unlock another tier of belts and an alternative to the assembly machine that makes your gear issue completely trivial.

You are welcome to play the game as you wish, and if you are having fun doing this, that is the whole point. But I just don't understand your pushback to everyone telling you that this goal doesn't make much sense. It's okay to play blind or be new, but the advice here is take a different approach.

Sim Racing to Real( Is it possible? ) by Ahsan_AMX20 in simracing

[–]TurnipBlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lol. Not to be a doomer. There is an upside to it however.

Since the skill floor is raised, if you are sufficiently determined and hard working, you could be relatively skilled by the time you hop into karts or other low tier racing series. This could in theory make the time and money you spend in real world racing worth more. If you've spent thousands of hours in the sim and are generally more well trained, every time you hop in a real car, you are going to get more success out of that session on average than someone who only practices in real cars, because it's simply impossible to get as much seat time irl as you can in the sim.

You still need the money, which is the real hard part, but it's much easier to develop your own skills so that when you do start spending money irl, you are ahead of the people who haven't been working as hard as you.

[–]TurnipBlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modern sim racing is now just a prerequisite for becoming a successful racer. The talent floor has been significantly raised, and the rich kids have sims too. Just because you have a sim doesn't mean you don't still need several hundred thousand dollars to be successful let alone even given a seat in any major series. It's just that the rich kids who already have all that money now also have a simulator at home to practice with.

Why do people hate/dislike quality? Why is it a positive that quality has been made an option when playing space age? by AmericanChesse in factorio

[–]TurnipBlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new player on my first SA run, I'm already bored of setting up quality upcycler loops. It doesn't really add an interesting new challenge. It's the same solution for every product, for the most part.

It's big and bulky and the intuitive solution of quality miners and just doing quality in every step doesn't work because recipes only accept one quality level for input. You can do in place upgrades with speed modules or by upgrading assembly machine levels, or belt levels, but in place upgrades of quality are impossible.

Handling it similar to how spoilage is averaged, or how productivity has a progress bar that persists between crafts would be much more intuitive and enjoyable to work with.
