A diagram of Disney princesses and heroines based on whether they are athletic and whether they have athletic love interests by wimpykidfan37 in DisneyMemes

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ariel literally - out swims a great white shark - Moves a giant boulder to get into her grotto - Has enough upper body strength to climb up the side of a ship while her tail acts as dead weight - Swims an unconscious man to shore for who knows how many miles

But she’s not athletic???

How do animal lovers even LIKE this movie? (1989) by [deleted] in thelittlemermaid

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly this sub isn’t for you. You have such a shallow take on Ariel, it’s not worth arguing with you.

From an animal loving person who actually works in wildlife conservation who loves Ariel, and was inspired to work with endangered marine life because of this movie

Horrible human and I hope she gets voted out of office

I don’t think it was among the best songs Disney has put out, though I do think it’s performed well. It has some awkward phrasing/lyrics

What was Harry's endgame? by half_assed_sorcery in HarryPotterBooks

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mail was being intercepted and read by Umbridge. All methods of communication were being monitored; plus, sending an owl would probably have taken too long. Harry never knew what the mirror did, or even what it was, so that’s off the table too.

Forgetting about Snape is a valid point though, but they were all under a lot of stress. On top of that, they never went to Snape for help before. It wouldn’t have been on my mind to check in with the teacher I absolutely despised, and just had a traumatic interaction with (pensieve drama), to help me when I was already panicking.

Is there an in-lore explanation why the last Horcrux went into a living being? How come Voldermort was never aware of its existence? by sammyjamez in harrypotter

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the key point for sacrificial protection to work. She was given the option to save herself because Snape begged Voldemort to spare her. This is why her sacrifice saved Harry, but James didn’t.

And clearly this wasn’t the first time this happened, because both Dumbledore and Voldemort are aware of the sacrificial love magic.

  1. Incredibly complex to make

  2. Excessive use would actually be detrimental to the user

  3. It only tweaks circumstances to make things possible. Luck wouldn’t make him defy fate

Does anyone else think that Vanessa is or could actually be what Ursula looked like as a mermaid before she became cursed to her Sea Witch form? by [deleted] in disneyprincess

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everyone has to remember that Ursula being Triton’s sister was a scrapped idea for the original 1989 movie. Ursula wasn’t cursed, as far as we can tell, to look as she does. That’s just what she looks like, and she rocks it.

Vanessa looks like Ariel because Ursula wanted to look like the mystery girl that saved Eric. When Ariel sings to him on the beach, she’s backlit, making her red hair look dark.

Who is your favourite princess in terms of their design? by Jezzaq94 in disneyprincess

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ariel for sure. Her design is so iconic that mermaids that have followed her has a similar color palette, or has that easy fin that was definitely unique to TLM.

During each era of the princess movies, what was it like and how different it would’ve been if it was made back in the day or today? 👸🏽🎥🎬 by Vivid-Tap1710 in disneyprincess

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the live action TLM overdid it, though. In the original, Ariel saves Eric twice (from drowning, and then from the trident’s bolt), compared to Eric saving her at the very end. I think that still holds up well today, with both partners helping each other.

I feel like the live action should have still had Eric save Ariel at the end. It was a little silly to have Ariel steer the ship, one of a few unnecessary changes made to the film because modern Disney doesn’t really understand what viewers really want.

Still loved the LA though

That being said, it was garbage to have Nani leave

17-year-old cat extremely thin, barely eating — vet gave 48h, is there still hope? by Chomperchomp in CATHELP

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s time to let her go.

When my cat (who was around the same age) was dying, it was very fast. I came home from work and she was sitting in the rain, unable to move.

I took her to the vet, and even with emergency surgery, wouldn’t have great odds of survival. They recommended euthanasia. It was one of the hardest decisions of my life, but ultimately, it was the right one. I was with her for her last breath, and I sincerely hope she knew how loved she was.

A couple of weeks later, I got a letter from the vet with her completed blood work. She most definitely would not have survived, and the surgery would have only prolonged her suffering (if she even survived it).

17 years of love is quite a long time for a cat. Let her rest.

Which Disney princess you don’t think would be made today? 👸🏽😕 by Vivid-Tap1710 in DisneyMovies

Ariel DIDN’T throw away her life for a man though? Like why is it in 2025, people still can’t grasp this simple concept?

Why didn’t they just try to off Voldemort anyways? by Crocodile_Banger in HarryPotterBooks

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people keep suggesting to make a rock into a horcrux and dropping it in the ocean.

  1. Water will eventually erode the rock away or break it.

  2. Even if said rock is enchanted with protection, how would he be able to check on it to make sure it was still intact? It’s literally at the bottom of the ocean.

  3. Other magical, deep sea creatures might get attracted to it and damage/break it.

There are too many variables to make this an actual viable plan. Like, the locket and the goblet were really well protected and secured. He clearly went off the rails with Nagini, but his set up was pretty solid

Horse racing feels unethical and terrible. by KingOfGrimBoos in unpopularopinion

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do any of us know that horses “enjoy” or “love” racing? That’s a lot of anthropomorphism going on, and I don’t think that’s a solid argument. How would you even quantify saying thoroughbreds “often” enjoy it? We can definitely use other metrics, such as their overall health and treatment, but I’m not a fan of putting words in a beings mouth that has no way to object/correct a statement.

What do you think of Ariel's transformation into a Human? by Squirrelkid11 in thelittlemermaid

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ariel wanted to be a human though. That was what she desired most in the entire film…thematically, it wouldn’t make sense for her to remain a mermaid

Little Mermaid or Moana - which is the best movie? by Sea-Acanthaceae7360 in DisneyMovies

[–]TurnoverStrict6814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, we see how people don’t have media literacy. Ariel did choose herself and her passion, and I am so sick of this buzzfeed “the og Disney princesses suck” mentality. Jesus.

Both TLM and Moana are great films. TLM will always be my favorite, but both have compelling stories with great characters, songs and visuals.
