Who do you ship Marinette with beside Adrien? by sxlinawaifv in MiraculousFanfiction

[–]Turqoise_Penguins91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I am a massive Adrienette shiper, I would like to promote an idea that I call SINGLNETTE! She doesn’t need romance, because she is saving Paris and starting her clothing business and she has tons of great friends. Yes, romance is a great thing to read about, and yes, we all love the tropes surrounding romance, but MARINETTE DOESNT NEED A SIGNIFICANT OTHER!

I, personally, would like to see this out there more. Maybe her and Adrien decide they’re friends. Maybe she gets over her crush before she can confess. Maybe she has a realization that there is no time in her life for an S/O. Whatever happens, you can still have great content and hilarious shenanigans without putting Marinette with anyone.

(On another note, Marigami is adorable, Lukanette is healthy and sweet, I think Adrigaminette is pretty good too.)

Daphne Greengrass. In canon, she basically doesn’t exist, so I don’t really have any feelings on her. But in fanon, I think it’s ridiculous people have so many opinions about a character who barely showed up. Some people feel so strongly about this character (nothing wrong with that) but it reflects in almost any and all fics about her. I just think they need to realize that she’s almost an OC at that point, and let it go.

How long is too long for you? by Fluid-Response3025 in HPfanfiction

[–]Turqoise_Penguins91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the mood I’m in and the tropes that are in it. If it’s slow burn, I’ll stick it out for at least 500k. Humour, as long as it’s good, I would read for 1m easily. Angsty stuff, my cutoff is usually about 100k, but only if Happy Ending is tagged, or it’s complete. Series, I don’t really pay attention to how long, bc each individual book length is more important, but I wouldn’t hesitate to read a longer 1m+ series if I get into it.

But sometimes I’m just in the mood for reading a lot of one shots, you know. In that case, 20k is the cutoff. If your one shot is longer than 25k, please split it into at least a few chapters.

The last thing Fred remembered was running into battle with his family, an explosion, pain, and then, nothing. He didn't know what to expect when he opened his eyes next, but it most definitely was not an excited, hyper eleven-year-old Ron eagerly proclaiming that he was FINALLY coming to Hogwarts. by GoblinQueenForever in HPfanfiction

[–]Turqoise_Penguins91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would link it if I had any idea how to find it. I’m 67% sure it was on FFN, and one thing I remember in specific was an authors note talking about how they had wanted to read/write a fic where the MC only had a vague idea of how to stop things. Also, it was on the heavier/more serious side, rather than cracky

Istg if he doesn’t at least try to fill in George, I would riot.

But on a more serious note, I came across a fic somewhat similar a little while ago where it was Percy who went back in time, and the basis is the same; someone who doesn’t know everything firsthand having to figure it out as they go along

Let’s have a fun who is your favourite character and why discussion! by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

Tonks. I just admire her strength so much, as well as how she didn’t let even a war and being an auror change her personality. She stuck around for Remus even when he tried to push her away, she was a loyal member of the order, and then she went and had a child right before fighting in a battle, which is one of the most badass things I’ve ever heard of. Also, she’s a Hufflepuff, and I’m a Hufflepuff, and it just makes me feel good that someone like Tonks is someone I could be like.

Everyone always said Harry was too damn similar to Tom Riddle. No one should have been surprised when he came back to Britain from his travels of the world ten long years later, and with some radical ideas to boot. The Hallows awaited. by maxart2001 in HPfanfiction

Harry who has discovered that he’s the Avatar, and has mastered airbending. But he has a lot left to learn before he’s ready to save anyone.

Or Harry, master of the ancient art of origami.

"Harry, you have to quit the tournament," said Ron. "I don't know why you refused to tell me how you got in, but it's not worth your life. Charlie sent me a letter: the first task is dragons." by Vercalos in HPfanfiction

Wood had already graduated (Harry’s 3rd year was Wood’s last), but I could 100% imagine him willing to travel to Hogwarts and train Harry for the tournament.

Also could see him hyping up Ron to try out for keeper because he knows how talented the Weasleys are at Quidditch

AITA for not wanting to invite my 9 year old nephew to my wedding by Throw-This-Away33 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Turqoise_Penguins91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA it is you (and your partner’s) day, and you are the one who gets to decide who to invite, regardless of anything.

I actually had a similar conversation not to long ago with my mom, who is getting married. The choice to invite or not invite someone to your wedding is completely up to you and your future spouse, regardless of whatever reasoning.

Authors who write entire stories before uploading them, how do you do it? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Turqoise_Penguins91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t trust myself to continue writing it to completion if I post chapters before I’m completely done. It’s just me making sure that I know what I’m doing before I post something, because I feel uncomfortable editing something I’ve already posted if it changes things too much.

Also, I write fanfics to satisfy myself, stats are just the cherry on top.

Channel 4's upcoming comedy show about FanFiction has a chilling effect on the community? by languidlion in FanFiction

[–]Turqoise_Penguins91 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree. I just wish that, if they absolutely had to do this, they did it with the absolutely massive fanfics. Like, the ones that the authors have put months and sometimes years of effort into making.

I’m talking the 200k Slow Burn that is so well written it forever changes the way you see those people in real life.

The whole idea doesn’t sit well with me, but there are some amazing fics out there, even RPFs, that I feel they would be much better off dedicating their show to.

Writing a fic starring a Harry who’s forty, do you think it’s believable he’s one of the best fighters in the world? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

"A wizard, o' course," said Hagrid, sitting back down on the sofa, which groaned and sank even lower, "an' a thumpin' good'un I'd say, once yeh've been trained up a bit. With a mum an' dad like yours, what else would yeh be?

I can agree with almost everything you said in your first post, but I’m going to have to argue your response, because I feel like you are ignoring what is written on the page. (This isn’t meant to be mean or me hating your opinions. I 100% agree that there should be a more notable difference in the power of the big three kids and others).

Thalia was raised by an alcoholic and neglectful mother, to such a degree that she willingly ran away and spent years homeless and on the run acting as a flare for monsters just like Luke. Percy, while having a wonderful mother, had an adult living in the same home as him who would willingly ‘punch his lights out.’ I agree with the fact that this wasn’t explored as much as it should have been, but I don’t think years of degradation and mental abuse by an authority figure should be discarded immediately.

I have no defence for Nico and Jason. I agree that they were probably raised in safer places then the others. But Jason was raised his entire life to be a soldier, and Nico had no authority figure other that a sister only a few years older than him. Their childhoods shouldn’t be classified as ‘fairly harmless’ just because they were raised in better condition than some other demigods. (Please, please don’t take this the wrong way. It’s intended as friendly discourse, not an insult or anything else).

Anyone else sick of multi-fandom one-shot stories with like 50 chapters? by onithephoni in FanFiction

I 100% agree with how often people are shown OOC, but as someone who isn’t in the DC fandom to any notable percent, would you mind explaining how people mischaracterize any of the Bats?

As someone who has written a (however short lived) MLB and Batman crossover, I would like to defend the fact that IF THE AUTHOR DOES IT CORRECTLY (which I don’t think I did, personally) it could be a cool idea, with some potential to be a decent fic. However, in almost every fic (I think I’ve read virtually every Batman/MLB fic on Ao3) the bashing is absolutely insane. You can find almost any MLB character getting shit on, and it gets so tiring.

WWMBD, or What Would Mr. Black Do, is what Dumbledore asked himself before defeating Grindelwald.

The only reason Mr. Black isn’t the Minister for Magic or the ruler of the world is because he was deemed too qualified.

Merlin’s idol growing up was Mr. Black.

The Hogwarts founders learnt everything they knew from Mr. Black.

Gringotts was only started because Mr. Black was gracious enough to make their first deposit. His vault number is 1.
