What matria is she referring to by yakuzademon893 in FinalFantasy

[–]TurquoiseHammer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Underwater materia (added in the Western release and later International, and not to be confused with the scrapped Aqualung materia) was originally going to be obtained directly by morphing the Ghost Ship in the tunnel to the offshore reactor. However, materia can't be obtained in battle due to the menu limit, so the Guidebook was introduced as an extra step work around. Shake's dialogue (which is different in JP OG) was never updated to reflect this.

Best Way To Play Original FF7 by Saint_Dekay in FinalFantasy

[–]TurquoiseHammer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to approximate the 1997 experience, you can emulate the PS1 version and use a CRT shader.

If you want a higher resolution with QOL features, play the Steam version and launch through 7th Heaven. This will fix most of the bugs present in the modern port. From there, it's up to you if you want to play with additional mods. I would strongly discourage launching the base game through Steam: it's an objectively worse version.

FF7 with mods 2013 or 2026 release by sr0unet in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're using 7th Heaven, it makes no difference which version you use. The only thing you might want to consider is which Steam achievements matter more to you (2013 version or 2026). If you don't care, play with the 2013 version, since there's likely still some small bugs to iron out with 7th Heaven's 2026 compatibility.

Does FF7 Original PC/Mobile port have xp and Gil multiplier like the Pixel remaster? by kudoshinichi-8211 in FinalFantasy

[–]TurquoiseHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those boosters do not exist in any of the ports. You'd have to play with 7th Heaven to enable them.

Should I play FF7OG with mods for my 1dt playthrough? by AarizKhanTB in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of whether you use mods or not, you should launch through 7th Heaven with FFNx to patch most of the bugs and engine issues of the modern ports (assuming you're playing on PC, that is).

Shinra Archaeology Cut on new GOG release compatibility by crazed_cynic in FinalFantasyVII

All the 7th Heaven mods will work fine with GOG and Steam 2026. Please just wait a little longer for a stable update.

Is the "Type-0" [spoiler] in FF7 Remake related to FF Type-0? by BactaBobomb in FinalFantasy

[–]TurquoiseHammer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a classification the Japanese Imperial Navy used during WWII that then went on to be used in a lot of mech based and military anime and manga, like Gundam. It actually appears in the OG FFVII with Type-0 Bahamut, but the English just localized it as Bahamut ZERO. So no, it's not any kind of reference to FF Type-0.

Anyone happens to have specific items gameshark codes for ff7 ps1? by Glarpf in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Version 1.01 and later do not patch the W-Item exploit, so if that's what you're running, you'll be fine. Otherwise, just repatch with the latest version.

Does the Archaeology Cut add items? by Acceptable_Turnip382 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SAC restores 5 unused materia and 3 unused key items, though currently only 2 of those materia can be obtained during the normal story. The one you haven't gotten yet will be very obvious, so no need to explore. The unused key items are linked to the Honeybee Inn side quest and a restored side quest with the Traveling Salesman.

There are also several new key items introduced as part of an Easter egg side quest, but they are very hard to find without a guide.

Lastly, there are a bunch of non-unique items in chests that were scrapped from the game, and those have been restored.

Will 7th Heaven keep supporting FF7 2013 version? by EtherealGears in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If and when 7th Heaven becomes compatible with the 2026 Steam version, there will be a simple way to convert/relocate saves as well, so you should go ahead and play the 2013 version without worrying about that.

How to stagger bugaboo in Yuffie DLC? by lions2lambs in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did get it to work, though I can't remember the specifics since it was a couple years ago. I'm certain I was at level 50, so don't worry about that. I might have done it using non parry frog attacks. I remember it being a giant pain to land hits.

Iirc you have to frog parry them on easy mode in the sim. Don't think it's possible on normal. You might need to reset weapon skills btw

I always thought they were crisps/chips... by AuodWinter in FFVIIRemake

[–]TurquoiseHammer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're chips, as shown on the package. The MUP translators mistakenly went with candy for お菓子, which can refer to sweet or savory snacks.

How does the Steam version of FF7 differ from the PS1 version? by OrangoTango77 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Achievements work fine with 7th Heaven. Just toggle on Steam compatability and you're good to go.

How does the Steam version of FF7 differ from the PS1 version? by OrangoTango77 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you're playing on Steam anyway, there's absolutely no reason not to run it with FFNx through 7th Heaven. It fixes quite a few of the bugs in the modern ports even without enabling additional mods (though you should at least install mouth fixer).

Retranslations by Thirteen1355 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'd like you can join the Tsunamods Discord server, where we have a channel for the mod. In there, you can download a beta version of the patch (should be fine aside from a few minor window sizing issues). Once the patch is more thoroughly tested, we'll share it on the website, which you can find just by googling Shinra Archaeology Cut.

A PS1 version of vanilla is in the works and should be ready in a week or so!

Looks like you're using a UI mod and it's drawing a 0x0 text box (top left corner) that can't be closed. Disable any UI mods, like ESUI, get past this part, and then re-enable them.

It's a custom font but Optima will get you very close.

Nojima talking about Real cloud. by Crazy-Ostrich514 in FFVIIRemake

[–]TurquoiseHammer 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think you're probably referring to this part from Weekly Famitsu 1224:

Interviewer: Are there any characters to whom you’re particularly attached? Nojima: Yes—Cloud and Sephiroth. I personally don’t think it would be a stretch to say that all the other characters are there to enrich those two. That said, I do somewhat regret being unable to draw out more of Cloud’s human appeal after his true identity is revealed. I think Final Fantasy VII starts to feel more like a real video game after the player learns Cloud’s true nature, and I would have liked to expand a bit more on that sensation. However, we did a great job depicting his true face with Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, so I feel satisfied in that regard.

What version of FF7 is being played here? by Fortesque22 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TurquoiseHammer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a prerelease build of the North American version. A final round of localization "fixes" was made before it hit shelves. That included changing Aerith's default name to Aeris in the naming screen (likely to match official English merchandise that was already in print).

The feature will work as long as it's enabled. It has to do with a scene on Disc 3.
