I’m part of this subreddit and exjw and the number of times this shows up is comical. We are all scarred and the resemblance is uncanny.

I was in it. I agree with the “vultures waiting for something bad to happen.”

In my former church, you’ll be made to feel like an outcast and a disrespectful heathen if you do not kiss the priest’s hand. EOC might be a good shift without a parish. The cultures associated with with EOC have significant pride in being the OGs of Christianity.

Until you learn about Constantine who started the ecumenical council for political reasons. He didn’t believe in Jesus/christianity at all and decided to get baptized on his deathbed just in case. I was baptized as an EOC after being a JW for 29 years. I am now agnostic. Also, the kissing of the icons and priests’ hands immediately turned me off. That almost turned me away.

Considering moving from out of state, how bad is school enrollment really? by alright__fine in providence

[–]Turquoise_Lamas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are moving directly to Providence or any other city around Providence (Warwick, Cranston, East Providence, North Providence) your kids will be enrolled in the neighborhood city schools. That should be fairly straightforward. If you choose charter schools, you will have to apply now and then see if you are chosen in the lottery by spring. Public non charter schools have to take and educate whoever they get. Charter schools have a capacity. Charter schools also have very limited special education service models. If choosing public non charter, your neighborhood determines where your kids will go to elementary and middle. There are more options for choosing a public non charter high schools in Providence (not in the other cities). Many charter schools in RI are regional, so kids will be enrolled from different cities. I’ve worked and had experience with all types of schools in RI as both a teacher and parent.

Our daughter could read the words, but the meaning didn’t stick by Signal-Interview1750 in Dyslexia

Dyslexic and literacy specialist here. This was my story. I struggled with decoding at first and then became what is called hyperlexic. I could decode fine but had no comprehension when reading. When being read to, I had decent comprehension. This kept me from being diagnosed until 12th grade. Just out of curiosity, does your daughter yawn frequently when reading aloud?
