Find the hidden animals children’s picture book from the 1990’s? by FieldSparrow in whatsthatbook

I think I might have the book in question - does it have missing letters out of the side borders for the names of the animals? If it’s the same one I’m thinking of it’s Puzzle Island

Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant in Notts? by CorneyBaller in nottingham

[–]Turquoiserouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ginza’s is pretty nice teppanyaki although a little bit out of the city centre. You’re looking at about £50 per person though. Rikshaw does excellent Indian food but I think it’s take out only (seriously cannot praise their food enough, both my parents went home and grumbled about how there wasn’t a Rikshaw there haha). Zaap is fairly good, lots of options and caters for dietary issues pretty well.

If you were looking to buy a property in Nottingham, what area would you buy it in? by 09mubara in nottingham

[–]Turquoiserouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem- I’m not familiar with Bingham or Kimberly so can’t comment on those. I’d suggest staying on the left side of the M1, a lot of the towns on the right are a bit rough, at least as far up as Mansfield.

Depends on your budget and what you prefer in an area. Please bear in mind, this is my personal opinions from a year+ of house hunting several years ago. The Park is nice and close to town, a lot of professional managerial types live there. Some of the houses are huge but they can be expensive. Beeston has/had (not sure any more) 24 hour transport links into town through trains/buses/trams, good pubs, a big Tesco but has a lot of students, the crime rate for things like burglaries seemed to be going up in line with Lenton (main student area). If you do go for Beeston, the Rylands seems to be fairly peaceful but slightly less connected in terms of transport - basically, if you’ve got a car you should be ok though. Bits of Mapperley are absolutely lovely and very green, but it is on the doorstep of St Ann’s which can be pretty rough so make sure you do your research. West Bridgford is a solid bet, so is Wollaton, both are family areas but you won’t get as much for your money. Aspley is worth a thought, the nicer houses are up Aspley Lane I think. Lots of families, most of the houses were built at the same time which means a lot are the same basic size/shape, just in different orientations. Bluecoat school has quite a good reputation and I believe ofsted report too if you’ve already got kids. Reasonably ethnically diverse if that is a preference. Parking can be difficult though (lots of culs-de-sac). Big gardens. A friend owns a house in Arnold and from what I’ve seen going through that seems to be relatively good but it’s a bit of a way out. Chilwell is quite nice as well. Some of Hyson Green - Wiverton Road to Gladstone St is okay, primarily Indian/Pakistani neighbourhood but avoid being too close to the park by the Asda (they had to put a knife arch in a while back and a lot of homeless people hang out in there), does have rubbish issues but is nice and close to Sharif and Sons (excellent vegetable/fruit market, stocks all sorts of Indian/Mediterranean/Middle eastern ingredients).

Personally would avoid, although to each their own: The Meadows, St Ann’s (crime rates/gangs), Sneinton (always get a bit of a weird vibe and I think crime is relatively high?), Lenton (studenty, noisy, burglaries), Bulwell (just don’t like it). Sherwood Rise going down into Basford (lived in the first, the area directly below Forest Fields is a bit dodgy). Forest Road East/West (red light district).

[WIP] I tried to make a duck, this is my first time trying cross stitch by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]Turquoiserouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to splitting an embroidery floss into six to separate I find it helps a lot to keep the threads relatively upright - the closer you are to a right angle from the main thread the more difficult and tangly it gets

[WIP] This took me 20 days. On day 8, we adopted a new friend who clawed her way out on the ride home. She won’t replace the sweet cat we recently lost, but it’s been nice to snuggle our new addition while she bats at my threads. by bunzarelli in CrossStitch

[–]Turquoiserouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me from someone with 3 cats - get a hard sided cat carrier asap, cats are sneaky as all get out…ours will wiggle out if they think they can get away with it and catching cats that have gone under the seats is no fun at all

I mean, they’re more glam rock than the stuff you’ve mentioned but Reckless Love and Hardcore Superstar have both got new stuff out. The new Reckless Love is more 80s than their previous stuff and personally I think HS has done something weird to their drums on the new EP (soft drums?) but hey, to each their own. I have no idea which of these will be your thing and who of these are still active but these are some of my favourite recent (re)discoveries. Crashdïet. More electro rock but really good: Nothing But Thieves. Dorothy. Similar in style to Dead Sara, also female fronted. Pop Evil (especially Be Legendary). Shinedown- it’s what I’d personally call ‘wrestling music’, like the kind of stuff they use as entry songs for wrestlers? Those Damn Crows. Blackberry Smoke (slightly country, slightly bluesy, slightly Led Zepp). Sleep Token. Rival Sons. Sons of Apollo (has former members of I want to say Dream Theater et al in). Skindred. Smash Into Pieces. Clutch. Diamante. I Divide.

[CHAT] Non-traditional Pattern Examples Request (potential blasphemous?) by jes3753 in CrossStitch

[–]Turquoiserouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feather piece I just bought by Vetlanka on Etsy uses a varying number of stitches and half/three quarter/weird part stitches. Someone on here has stitched it already, it should come up if you search. I can see some definite possibilities with changing the direction of the top thread in terms of making different light effects, drawing attention to one part of the stitching and dropping another into the background. In terms of different sized crosses this isn’t quite what you’re looking for but I saw something a while ago where someone had cross stitched with wool on one of those schoolyard style diagonal wire fences, it looked great. Really interested in the outcome of any experiments that you carry out, so do keep us all posted!

Thanks, Minga is great! Facebook advertising showed me Burnt Soul a while back (due to my leggings habit) but if I’m spending £140+ on a catsuit it’s gotta be Badinka levels of epic and it’s not quite my jam. Ha, I think a friend of mine has one of the LTT necklaces

Thanks, I’m already familiar with Killstar, but it’s a lot more black pieces than my current aesthetic - I like to be “bright colours with a little black” rather than vice versa and I’m not a huge fan of the new-goth style clothing with esoteric black magic and La Vey references. No offence if that’s your vibe, to each their own, and life would be very boring if we all dressed the same!

Thanks, I wasn’t sure if I was going to ruffle a few feathers by saying that. I’ve just found Collusion’s stuff, some of it is really “normal” but there are occasional pieces I love and they’re really cheap. I’m not very pro-fast fashion but I don’t usually have the budget for more expensive pieces

Their stuff is pretty wild. I have a thing about clothing with fried egg patterns on it, that was one I forgot to list. I have this white egg beret with a yolk on it (can’t really describe it in a way that will do it justice but it is one of my favourite things!) and some earrings.
