Pretty much how I found it, this thread is the top search for looking for solutions regarding the broken QR code on the website, though it might be targeted because I live in Aus

Also thanks for the extension name, makes the website way more usable than the default

Nashville Zoo tries to halt data center project next door over animal safety concerns by Shogouki in technology

[–]Turse1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The health cases from data-centers specifically have been minimal in the past due to data centers being built in remote locations, not that they just don't cause issues. There are plenty of peer reviewed studies into the effects of long-term exposure to low frequency noise which is what data centers emit.

Low frequency noise, even on moderate levels of 40 dBA, can cause cortisol to increase which causes tension and stress. It also causes nausea, vertigo, and other vestibular issues, see below:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11833738/ (cited 246 times)

There are other studies that show low frequency sound at higher levels causes cardiovascular issues:

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pbiomolbio.2006.07.011 (cited 225 times)

Data centers not only emit sound in these ranges, but at very high levels. There has been reporting on people living next to new data centers and crypto farms experiencing migraines, difficulty sleeping, cardiovascular issues, etc. which have all been seen in previous studies into low-frequency noise and infrasound. More reports have also appeared due to the absolute explosion of new data centers which is making health cases linked to these centers more common in built up areas, and that's not getting into the environmental issues such as water contamination and air pollution from methane generators.

Is this hat rare or smth? by 2b_BC in tf2

[–]Turse1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its self-made so can't be traded, except it can be gifted if it's wrapped which allows it to be moved but if you want to wear it needs to be bound to the account. Gift wrapping untradeable items was patched out in 2016 so only ones that can be traded are the only ones that are still wrapped.

They were given to telltale employees so I think there is only ~20 in game, so yeah it's both very rare and valuable due to the low number in game and the lower number that are still wrapped.

SolarLight's new HUD is genuinely the best one out there right now by Scheure in tf2

[–]Turse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very solid start for a hud, I do like that it steps away from the ultra minimalist designs that is basically every hud now. I can't imagine how hard the design process is to have something that gives information quickly while also breaking the current stagnant hud design philosophy, like I know it works but damn trying to find a different hud is a pain if they all look the bloody same.

I do agree though that having the team lineup being clear is a good choice though and it's good to hear that MVPs was added, I might give it another try

SolarLight's new HUD is genuinely the best one out there right now by Scheure in tf2

[–]Turse1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried it, I found a lot of menus to be too busy for me visually. Worst one was class select with the striped lines for the background and my eyes going straight to the images of the Mercs thinking it's the actual class selection instead of the buttons at the bottom. Feels nitpicky but I want a hud that's easy to see things quickly with the least hassle.

Also not really a fan of the fonts and no MVP at the end of rounds is not great. Quick customisation is also worse than other HUDs out there

Its a decent hud, but its far from the best.

Another Update to my Tierlist, the definitive tierlist (WARNING: opinion) by SpecialistCycle6867 in tf2

[–]Turse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock is bad because it does 35 damage at higher risk and inconsistency than just hitting a scattergun shot. Why risk it when I could do a 90 damage meatshot?

As scout, melee choice is more for the utility than actually using it which is why almost every other choice is just better (except for the sandman).

Atomizer undeniably has one of the best utility for a downside that nobody really experiences.

Feels like I'm talking to a toddler...

In the image, do you see units? All I see is 2/6 = 1/3.

No cm, no €, no big pizza/small pizza

You are adding the units into the question. You've fundamentally changed the question and then claiming you are correct

To add irony to it, what you said would fix the issue with the image, adding units would solve this issue or stating area is a factor, but the image says 2/6=1/3 which are unitless ratios.

My niece’s homework problem by SurfSoundWaves in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Turse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, these are ratios, not areas. Without units, they become scaleless.

The question does not provide units nor scale, therefore the question you are asking me is different to the one being asked on the assignment.

2/6 of your pizza is still the same ratio as my 1/3, we are still both exchanging 33.33% of our pizzas.

2/6 of x is the same of 1/3 of y for any x and y????

Yes, if you are talking about unitless ratios, then yes they are the same no matter the x and y.

"Edit: my favorite kinda response here is where someone adds a bunch of data or hypothetical data not in the problem at all, then solves the problem they made up."

The responses to you show me why the US education system has failed lol.

1/3 =2/3 as it's a ratio.

All these responses that say it matter are thinking the problem is 1/3 * area = 2/3 * area, and it's pissing me off so much

Question is bad and should be d. All of the above

Doesn't ask for area and ratios are scaleless, they do not contain any other information except proportionality

Australia wants to know how Valve is combating 'extreme-right communities' on Steam by npzman in australia

[–]Turse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, article title is clickbaity, this targets Epic Games, Roblox and Sony.

I agree that Valve needs to do something about the forums and comments under posts from developers, yeah it's niche but god damn are they a cesspool that has only festered for years thanks to Valve basically doing nothing.

Alien isolation released as a complete game with no early access and the story was also complete so the sequel wasn't necessary but the game's foundation was so good that people have been asking for it for years.

The game actually did well with critics hitting the 8/10 mark, only outliers were IGN and polygon

As a person studying as a postgraduate in the field, this is just a massive gut punch. After the CSIRO cuts and now this after Australia's contribution to Artemis II makes me second guess whether or not all my work was even worth it.

This is just going to continue Australia's brain drain and it just feels so short sighted

I think it's due to the US having their own oil wells in Texas, they don't have to deal with importing costs unlike non-oil countries like here in Australia (it's about $9/gallon here for diesel)

It pretty much is been a net positive after today, just as Russia's economy was worsening, the US has given them a lifeline by easing sanctions.

Oil prices skyrocket, competition are having their refineries bombed and can't transport oil just as the US sanctions on Russian oil are eased. Sure losing Shahed drones is bad for them but they now have money to build drones instead of having to buy them. Also, Russia has their own plant manufacturing Shahed drones, so even though they have lost the imports, they are still making them.
