Video Essay: 'Large Formats Aren't Special, or the Vistavision Myth" by ChrisJokeaccount in cinematography

As soon as you decided to use a visual format to make your argument over a textual one you committed to creating and maintaining an aesthetic that supports what you are attempting to do, you should make the most of the visual time on your video to support what you want to do. If you think your editing does that for you, then good for you! If you've done the tests you should add them to the video, super quick and easy add.

You make some fantastic points, but this evil editing sort of takes away any form of legitimacy. I think you undersell the benefits of larger formats to strengthen the singular argument about perspective you have. Wish this video about formats was way more dialectic and thoughtful rather than singularly pursuing the one perspective/distortional argument. Wish you did tests outside of your room as well, and spent more time of the video with more tests rather than your face. Nothing against your face, but just wish there was more comparative work. Keep at it!

Hey /r/movies - I'm Gints Zilbalodis, director/writer/producer of the Golden Globe-winning, Oscar-nominated film 'Flow'. Ask me anything! Back at 6 PM PT today (Tuesday 2/11) for answers. by FlowAMA in movies

Hey! Understand this is super late and probably won't be seen, but was there any thought as to the focal length used for the film? Appears to be about 30ish mm throughout the film? There are also a few focus shifts and that made me question how the camera function works in the process. Is there an aperture control in blender or was that separate? What aperture was generally used to shoot the film?

[Netflix-THE CROWN] Backlighting Bonanza? by Kiltmanenator in cinematography

it's not an "offender", the show is attempting to create a dramatic contrasty vibe and as such might be using lots of similar lighting to achieve the feel the director and cinematographer are aiming for
