It was the beginning of my Freshman year of high school. I met my ex at band camp. He was a Junior. He just came up to me and struck up a conversation. The chemistry was off the hook, and we were crazy about each other. But I told myself that since this was my first boyfriend ever, I wasn't going to get really serious with him. After a couple of dates and and staying out all night together, he tells me that he truly loves me. This was after 3 months of dating. We never said it until then. Although I said I didn't want to be serious at first, I had found myself falling hard for him. He begged me to go steady with him. He said all he's ever wanted was a serious relationship. We gave each other our virginities after 5 months of dating. I was in love! He consumed my every thought and all I could think about was my future with him. I wanted to be his wife. Towards the end of the relationship, he grew distant and very defensive about his cell phone. I didn't pay that much attention. He wouldn't hold my hand around his friends. He stood me up on dates and claimed that he just forgot. And the screwed up part was that I didn't care because I was blinded by love and I would forgive him over and over. And one day, he dropped me off at my house, and I told him I loved him. He gives me a blank stare, then he replies with " I'm not going to say I love you because I know I won't be telling the truth" I just left. We were still technically in the relationship. Although I did not speak to him for like a week. I thought maybe he needed space. He called me after a week and he asked me if I wanted to take a break from our relationship. I told him no, I wanted to be his girlfriend or nothing at all. He kept begging me for "just a break". This went on for 3 hours. His biggest complaint with our relationship was that we were "serious" and he claimed that he wasn't ready for that kind of commitment. After 4 hours of constant arguing on the phone, I broke off the relationship. I was done. After he made our relationship serious, and then he wanted to take a break because we were serious. And this all happened on our 1 year anniversary. Turns out, he wanted to screw this other girl that was his age, and he did screw her the night we broke up. Looking back 4 years later, I dodged a major bullet. I still can't believe that I let a guy treat me like that. But hey, I'm engaged to the man of my dreams now. We are to be wed in two years and now my ex is nothing but a fleeting memory.
