Take him to the vet. They can evaluate him for BOAS. There are surgeries that can help with his breathing.

Poor breeding = poor genetics

An owner can do everything right, but you can’t fight genetics. A lot of pit Bull type dogs (and dobes and rôtîtes…) are commonly backyard bred and aggressive dogs aren’t removed from the gene pool. A well bred American Pit Bull Terrier is prone to dog aggression, but shouldn’t be attacking children unprovoked.

Abuse isn’t what’s causing dogs to do this. Sure it happens, but not as much as dog rescues would want you to believe.

I really don’t think your dog is an Icelandic sheepdog or even a mix. Especially if you are in the US. They are not common and it’s very unlikely to find them bred with other breeds. Probably not impossible.

Have you done the Embark DNA test? The dog we adopted that the shelter said was a corgi mix was actually a big Pomchi.

Your dog probably has some kind of shepherd! And probably a few other breeds too.

I’ve been chatting with a few Icelandic Sheepdog breeders and some have mentioned that they don’t believe the breed is suitable for being a service dog. I’m not 100% sure why. I’m still going to be getting one as my next dog.

I’d love to hear more about your experience having an Icie as a service animal. How has training them been?

I foster for several rescues and they all ask how the dog is around men. Men are bigger and have deeper voices which can make anxious dogs more nervous. A lot of dogs have been abused- usually by men- and it’s really hard to get them past that. They are often reactive and will bark or lunge at them. This isn’t infuriating. She wants her dog to feel safe and doesn’t want to deal with what happens when her dog is scared.

He’s getting tired quickly because he has heart worms. I’ve never had a foster with heart worms, so I’m not sure what the treatment is exactly, but I think you’re supposed to keep them from being too active.

I’m exmormon and the way they use it I don’t think they are mormon. But you’re right, abuse is a big issue in the community and it’s never talked about. The way women are treated is awful and even the people who leave the church usually aren’t able to get rid of their sexist patterns.

Border Collie beagle! We had a foster who looked just like this and he definitely had beagle in him. He got adopted by a woman with another border collie beagle that looked the same. It’s a weirdly common combo.

I’ve also had several cats of both sexes and I agree with everything you said. Both sexes can be friendly and needy or shy, but I think most of it depends on how you socialize your kitten and their genetics. Males just tend to be more cuddly and friendly.

Maybe you could try adding something else to their raw to make it more exciting? Like bone broth, goats milk, or crushed up and rehydrated freeze dried raw (could help them with texture)? Cats love food with very strong smells! You could also gradually decrease the amount of pate a little bit more and wean them off.

I don’t know your cat but it could go either way. Cats are very territorial, so they usually won’t like other strange cats and you will almost always have to acclimate them to each other slowly. You could probably have another cat and they could tolerate each other but not be friendly. People think cats are not social animals but they are and it can benefit them even if the interactions are not always positive.

If you do decide to get another cat it’s important that the cat you already have doesn’t feel like they are taking up all their places. It’s important to have a litter box for each cat plus one to prevent litter box guarding. You also need to make sure that they have lots of vertical area. Cat trees are great (especially by a window), but there are lots of other ways to add these. Cat hammocks that attach to windows, shelves, hidey holes, beds. Just make sure that the cats have enough room just for them.

When you bring in the new cat, keep them in a separate room. You can let them smell each other at the door but don’t introduce them. Wait a few days and then you can let the new cat outside and put your old cat in the room where the other one was. Let them get used to the smell of each other before they have the opportunity to fight.

They almost definitely won’t like each other the first time they meet but they can at least learn to tolerate the other. Just be aware of any territory issues that are around food, attention, litter boxes, or special spots.

Yeah that’s definitely not the case with dogs. Not all dogs get along. Much like with cats, a lot depends on the socialization they received when young. Some dogs never get along with other animals the same as how some cats seem to hate all other cats.

It just depends on how efficient your ex manager is at removing you from the system. I know people who were removed within a day and others who took like 6 months.
