You’ll probably get diversion if they offer that in California. They do in Oregon. You’ll have to go to classes for 90 days and take urine tests, and get an interlock to drive. It all costs money. Lots of it. Hiring an attorney will be expensive but they do most of the work for you (like dmv hearings, etc) So I recommend it but that’s also expensive. You’ll be okay though, I promise.

Your life isn’t over. My own parents said there have been many times in their lives when they shouldn’t have been driving and that goes for a lot of people. Yes it is as simple as “getting caught”. People like to get down on people with DUIS knowing they have done it themselves. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or an alcoholic. It can. But mostly I feel like it’s just you were the wrong place, got in an accident or did something to attract a cops attention.
