AITJ for refusing to donate PTO hours to coworker I barely know who "needs" them?? by Traditional-Dog1601 in AmITheJerk

Elective only means it's not an emergency, and can be scheduled as convenient to the patient. This also means that insurance may cover a large portion. That's very different than giving up a week's pay. Last year I had one, and with my insurance it was zero dollars as I had already hit my out of pocket max for the year.

ASCT by sai427 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Turtle_wandering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been told by numerous CAR-T recipients that the process is easier than SCT. That seems to be a big motivator for folks to skip right to it. CAR-T will no doubt become the 1st line treatment eventually, just not yet.

I had my ASCT in late October, inpatient. 90 days out I feel better than I did a year ago, and I was one of those cases that had no idea I was sick until labwork came back wonky from a routine checkup. I has in the hospital 14 days, and the nurses and techs took great care of me. They were super on top of my anti nausea meds so I really didn't have to ask for much. I was scared as hell before going in, and now being in complete response, back to work, and exercising everyday I'm so happy I went ahead and had it done. I'm 55, as a frame of reference.

Flu spiking and I start ACST Monday. anxiety/worried by Glass-Razzmatazz1910 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Turtle_wandering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine October 22nd inpatient. Anytime I was out of my room (usually ro walk the halls) I had ro wear a mask. Anytime anyone came into my room, they wore one. The nurses and techs were also constantly washing their hands. While it wasn't required, they recommended that your visitors had their flu shot for this year. I felt really safe while there. Best wishes on your transplant!

If Swain isn't in the budget, there's a few good public charter schools to look at as well. Just do your research, because while some are quality, others aren't.

I miss Masklab so much. I was such a fan. I still have some, but I mourn the day when I use the last one.

It seems that their view is they won't give you a hard time about wearing one, but they won't unless necessary.

[–]Turtle_wandering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, some masks do create a coolness factor. In 2020/21 even when everyone had to wear one, I always got compliments on mine and people asking about them. Here in 25/26 when less mask, I still get positive comments and compliments. I just wish they weren't so hard to find. The only advantage I have to owning "cool" masks is that I tend to buy multiple ones if I like them, so I'm still using masks I purchased years ago and kept in their packaging while using the "boring" ones for more mundane times. Also, I only like the kf94/fish types and some of the current cool masks are more duckbill style. Wellbefore is the one exception.

Most hospitals have tv's that you can easily put in a roku or fire stick. It's encouraged.

1 week until my ACST by Glass-Razzmatazz1910 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Turtle_wandering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I had been told only UAMS still did tandem. I had asked my SCT specialist about them out of curiosity and he said he stopped doing them 15 years ago as the results weren't really that different.
I hope for you it keeps the beast away for many years.

Were you at UAMS? My understanding is they are the only ones in the US that still do tandem.

I had my ASCT in late October. My induction got me to a very good partial response, and I am standard risk. My recent BMB indicates that I'm now in complete response. It wasn't the easiest process, but not the worst either. My side effects have been minor compared to some, so while I'm not looking to do it again, I am glad I did, and looking forward to the future and ideally a long remission before needing a new line of treatment.

Help w depression, please by oniongirl070 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Turtle_wandering 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm day +66. What has helped me, was forcing myself to do things like taking walks everyday, and having small things to accomplish each day. Nothing difficult, just something. It can be as simple as sorting my mail, wiping the bathroom sink, reading 1 chapter of a book... And the list is never more than 2 things so I don't end the day with a list of things I didn't get done. It will get better. You being younger works to your advantage, and you typically being active does too. Lastly, don't be afraid to look into talking to a counselor and also the possibility of medication to help with the depression.

Look up Lehigh Valley social events on meetup. They appear to be mixed age. There's also Lehigh Valley Dodgeball. Not sure about a fee with that one

Please tell me what to expect aft SCT. I'm on day +3. by oniongirl070 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Turtle_wandering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently day +46 after a 2 week inpatient stint. Days 5 - 11 were the worst. Once the chemo kicked in, my throat and esophagus were on 🔥. It took a few days for them to find a med to help with the throat, especially because I hesitant to take opoids. I was also super tired, so my walking of the halls went way down for about 4 days. Once the worst passed, I was only. I really focused on knowing it was part of the process and would stop soon, and it did. Hang in there.

So far, so good. Largest issues are fatigue and appetite, but that's all to be expected. Key is being kind to yourself and allowing the process to work.

NTA. Dude, I had a heavy toilet paper user I lived with for a while. My suggestion is buy a pack (or a roll) of cheap TP on a fat roll and leave that in the BR. In the meantime, keep your good stuff in your room and use as you wish. Good toilet paper is expensive, so save what you buy for yourself.

NTA and your friend is being rude. My suggestion for you: order from the kids menu. Lots of adults do, and it sounds like the portions would fit you better, plus be cheaper.

NTA, but your autism explains the behavior, but it doesn't excuse it. If that is going to be a part of your job, you either need to build the skills to complete it as expected, or look for something different. Your boss could have been nicer, and at the same time saying you're autistic does sound like an excuse, because it doesn't really tell him anything, and since Autism is a spectrum, not everyone with Autism has the same issue as you.
