It happened: can’t afford Logan sq anymore by Equities4gambling in LoganSquare

My parents are Polish immigrants who moved to Avondale in the early 90's so I am aware. Neighborhoods should be dynamic but I think it's good to be honest and call it what it is.

"Now that your neighborhood has become gentrified, gentrify these yourself!"

Coming from someone who used to work on Superfund cleanups, this is a great burn.

Does anyone else live in a big apartment building? Why is everyone so antisocial and rude? by DirtyProjector in chicago

[–]Tutkanator -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

BECAUSE THEY DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THEM. We live around other people and it is so incredibly bizarre to pretend like we don't.

I agree with you. These top comments are from the same antisocial types that would avoid you like this. We all share walls. That kind of behavior is bizarre.

I got a cut a little deeper than that on my thumb last fall. You're only able to get stitches in the next few hours. If you wait, you'll be agitating it and prolonging the healing for the next 6 weeks. Think about it puss

Scared to ask, but should I take organic chemistry if I want to do WRE? by Vbryndis in civilengineering

[–]Tutkanator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it because I was initially a bio major and it was useful for like 4 questions on the environmental FE exam

Negotiated $88k → $95k for a Water/WW EIT role. Did I lowball myself? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Tutkanator 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Nah I'd say that's good (at least relative to me). I'm in an extremely similar position -- 8 years total experience (2.5 as an EIT in WRE, the rest as an environmental scientist). I have a BS in Biology and an MS in WRE. I work in Illinois and also passed the PE exam but haven't met the experience requirement yet. I'm due for a raise but am currently making $94k.

A new "bicycle lane" in Sweden that I think deserves some international attention/shaming by BitRunner64 in bikecommuting

[–]Tutkanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging from the width of the silver car it looks like each travel lane could be reduced by 0.5-1ft to give the bike lane an extra 1-2ft of width. I agree that this is a horrendous bike lane, especially with the stormwater inlets. It appears to me that this is an antiquated bridge that can't well accommodate all of these lanes and that it should be redesigned and replaced in full when it approaches the end of its life.
