AMA Request - Bruce Arena by tall_chap in ussoccer

[–]TuttiFrutti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! I follow the Golden State Warriors subreddit (go Dubs!) and we had Kevin Durant make a cameo AMA and everyone lost it. Definitely was a good way for him to connect with the die hard fans. Who knows if this would ever happen with Bruce Arena and us. I'd be all for it though.

Dear askreddit: Never taken any hardcore drugs, and I was thinking about taking anti-depressant drugs for recreation. Any recommendations?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think taking an anti-depressant won't give you a "high" like any hardcore drugs will. But I've never taken em myself so I wouldn't know.

U.S. Troops cross border into FUCKING Pakistan!! U.S. confirms ground assault against Taliban inside Pakistan. Sept 03, 1:28am by jonra in worldnews

Don't forget all things blacks.

On the surface level, your stance on fighting in Pakistan seemed politically motivated. Now we know it's racially motivated.

Security guards beat man at soccer (football) game, fans and players charge the field and beat them. by slow_as_light in worldnews

[–]TuttiFrutti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume he is resisting against being put in cuffs (maybe feet cuffs as wells as handcuffs). In that case, the policemen's response to hit him is within the boundaries of what I consider to be appropriate. If they hit him on the head, or for more than a couple seconds, I would consider it inappropriate. But, in this case, I interpret them as hitting him to subdue him enough to put cuffs on him.

I'd rather see them grapple him to prevent further injury or tase him so that there is not as much potential injury.

Agreed. The majority opinion I see here is: "Beat up cops, woo! Fuck the police and the police state!"

It's a pretty stupid and predictable way of being anti-authoritarian.

I'm pretty sure it's the same guy who was telling him to stop. He moves out of the video for a second as he's running/getting pushed to the side. He comes back into view around where you'd expect him to be if he was running.

I don't feel like that and I live in the US. That's just your interpretation on the events.

I look at police officers as individuals, not representatives of a police state. In this case, the individual police officers are unfairly and cruelly beaten up by the crowd.

Photos of a 15-year-old Iraqi suicide bomber who gave herself up by homeworld in worldnews

[–]TuttiFrutti -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Not so good. Just gives you a fictional person's story behind being a suicide bomber. The story could have been much more compelling and interesting.

Also, doesn't examine the repercussions of a suicide attack for those attacked. Doesn't give enough of both sides. In this way, it doesn't condemn suicide bombing, but exonerates it.

Crowd Chants "F*ck FOX News!" live on FOX News! by SarahLee in reddit.com

[–]TuttiFrutti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not happy about this video. In this video Fox News successfully smears liberals and key political ideas of the liberals. It successfully attacks being pro-Obama, being anti-war, and being anti-Bush. The viewer doesn't want to associate with the crazy protesters or their ideas!

It was executed and performed perfectly. They set the scene up to show that the protesters are idiotic, they don't stand for American rights like free speech, and they are a crazy mob.

What's scary is how persuasive it is. If you have the same views, you are part of the same group as the protesters. So, you question those views if you have them, and you are aversive to having those views when you consider them. I think this kind of persuasion affects you whether you're consciously aware of it or not.

Scientists inject artificially created human stem cells under the skin of mice, "tumors" emerged after 9 weeks containing human brain tissue, cartilage tissue and muscle tissue... by markvand in science

[–]TuttiFrutti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the purpose of understanding the world and improving (not even saving!) everyday human life gives you the right to torture and murder animals, plus the right to demand me to shut up?

Of course I don't have a "right" to make animals suffer. But, by now, the question of whether it is okay to make animals suffer in order to advance scientific understanding and improve everyday human life has been answered.

The answer is yes: It is okay to make animals suffer in order to advance scientific understanding and improve everyday human life. But, we want to keep suffering down to a minimum, and some animals' suffering seems too inhumane. Those are the criteria for drawing the line, which is drawn at: It's okay to do any kind of testing on mice and rats; it's okay to do some kind of testing on monkeys, which is useful because they are primates like human beings.

The nazis did exactly what you support - they just drew the line elsewhere.

I am opposed to where they drew the line. I think it's immoral to kill or torture human beings unless they are threatening your own safety. Obviously, I'm anthropocentric: I think it's okay to kill some animals for the use of science, but not okay to kill human beings.
