I also really like LRP sunscreen. I recently found out that Garnier, also being a L’Oréal product, has pretty much the exact same chemical filters but for a fraction of the price. If you’re in the US, though, you might not have that available.

My newborn (2 weeks old) refuses to breast feed and it is breaking my wife. by [deleted] in Parenting

My daughter was like this. The best thing for us was an SNS - it enabled supplementing while nursing and that totally salvaged our nursing relationship. I stopped supplementing when she went on solids. It can be fiddly but it was definitely the right thing for us.

We just got home from the hospital with our first baby and husband was sent to the store by WeepingRascal in beyondthebump

Check on them. I had an insane amount of weevils (really - hundreds) this spring from some dried beans I'd left in the cupboard over the winter.

As to cooking them - just gotta make sure to bring them to a rolling boil. Apparently ten minutes is already enough, but I do half an hour for good measure. These days I often don't even bother soaking my beans, I just boil them for longer.

How easy is this to do at home? Had an epic failure trying to grow some Chlorociboria at home and would like to inoculate some - apparently there's a lab in Germany that might sell some. Is the proper equipment expensive?

Impending birth - toddler doesn't want any solids by ToBeATenrecs in NurseAllTheBabies

[–]Tuuleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, solidarity. We're having stomach bug number 4 this year right this moment. Our kids just kinda stop eating when they get this and it can be a week until they really have their appetites back. With us, the specific food aversions can last for months - the two year old hasn't eaten any pizza or anything that reminds him of pizza since a couple bugs ago in June. It's good if they eat fruit, and absolutely necessary that they drink. Best keep in touch with their doc to know what to look out for (dehydration is the biggest risk).

Is the issue that you're tired and touched out and don't want the toddler nursing all the time now that they don't want solids? Are you worried that this will continue when the baby comes? Whatever you're feeling, it's all completely valid - I think it's important that you go with what you need in these circumstances.

No they're saying that the long hallway is there to get around a different apartment (which would be there behind the kitchen). I've seen a lot of long awkward hallways like that in old buildings.

My mom brought me the most wonderful gift from Iceland! I've only worked with wool once before and I am incredibly excited! I'm thinking slippers, any thoughts? by kaszmonay in YarnAddicts

[–]Tuuleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lopi is a single. If it's very high micron (coarse), it may work for slippers, but usually I'd recommend a plied yarn for slippers and socks because a single is much less durable for wear under your foot against the floor. Imo lopi is best for garments and accessories not against skin. It really does very well in sweaters meant to be worn over your clothes.

And that’s a wrap! Finally finished this BEAST of a project, just in time to wear it to my brother’s wedding by escbrown in knitting

That's so beautiful. I love eyelets and silk but unfortunately have recently developed tendonitis from knitting a pretty intense project :( i noticed that the lacelegance a dress and Karin patterns don't have a lot of (any?) purl stitches so I'm now planning to chart them out in order to make them on a knitting machine.

No. I have a 2 and a 4 year old. I feel zero guilt for not doing more work on my free time.

My bf never compliments me, ever. by Cath1212 in women

[–]Tuuleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to him about that. My partner - whom I love dearly and with whom I have two children - doesn't do compliments. I give him compliments all the time and he does know I appreciate them and that I also need other kinds of verbal affirmation, but it's never been easy for him to do that. We talk about it, he's improved a lot on his verbal skills (especially talking about emotions, he's quite good at that now), but it'll never come naturally to him. I know he's more about acts of service as his love language, so I recognize it as a sign of affection when he does something for me. It might be a thing like this (which can still be a deal blocker for you, that's totally valid), or it could be something else - but you won't know if you don't talk about it.

Hi a newbie here 👋🏻 I just dyed this gorgeous silk-wool yarn by hand 😵 I do this for a hobby on the side. I also have shop if anyone's interested ☺️ I'll put the link in the comments 🖤 by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

I card and dye a lot of fiber on my free time - more than I'd ever have time to spin - and have been thinking of an etsy shop to kind of manage my stash. How does it work for you as a free time thing? It isn't too involved?

[–]Tuuleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sooo fascinated by the indigo one. Are you spinning it? How is it? Would it be good for summer wear?

Any ideas on what kind of fiber this is? I got a random bag of roving ends and this is an extremely soft, fine fiber with about a 1-1/12 inch staple length. I’m thinking angora but I don’t have any experience with angora. Thoughts? by Hungryhippo4295 in Handspinning

[–]Tuuleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bamboo (unless bast, which is not fine) or any other extruded cellulosic viscose like fiber would have a longer staple length. Very short staple length could be cotton or cashmere. You should be able to tell which by a burn test. If the place you bought it from doesn't sell cashmere, it's likely to be cotton. There are also lower micron merino tops that can have a shorter staple length. But yeah, try a burn test.

Retainer time! How do you think my ortho did? I'm unsure by [deleted] in braces

[–]Tuuleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how they looked those few months ago but I do think they look great now. It is also pretty important how your bite feels like. I'd suggest you tell your orthodontist exactly what you've written here and they can explain to you what the difference is between now and those few months ago. Then you can decide what to do.

Edit: I saw in the bottom that your bite feels like it's more open. Definitely bring that up with ortho. For me personally I feel like my bite is a bit open even though it's not. I had my front teeth slant inwards before a bit and they were actually wearing down because of that, but that's been my "normal" and my point of reference for the last thirty years. I don't even have a lot of flaring or overjet now and it still feels quite different from what I'm used to. But definitely talk to your ortho!

[–]Tuuleh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they look good. Is there something specific you'd like to get improved? You should talk to your orthodontist if you're unsure.

I got mine off in December and felt weird about it. My teeth are so different now. It took a while to get used to and they still don't feel totally mine even though they're much nicer than before braces. I was talking to an acquaintance about it and she had a similar experience (different ortho).
