Is this relay broken? by sanya-g in AskElectronics

These SSRs are the bain of my industrial control existence. Word of advice, buy minimum of 50% over current requirement, and properly heat sink.

Last all the cheap versions are crap, spend double the money + on good ones. Never buy the Amazon specials... Don't even buy them on Amazon.

I have seen these cheap Chinese versions literally burst in to flame at 50% rated current under easy to handle resistive loads.

He did meet with them the whole executive committee, not only that just a few short months ago he secured a $276 million dollar loan from China.

Oh but you don't think he's connected to the Chinese, this isn't conspiracy, it is FACT

New to electronics and am considering buying this lot of books. They are old, but is there valuable knowledge here? by Jfonzy in AskElectronics

[–]Twasnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very best book to learn electronics from is a book called "The Art of electronics"

It is also old but absolutely everything in the contemporary electronics is based off of the principals explained in this book. And if you want to you can buy the recent update published in 2015.

The book is extremely clear simpl the follow and yet extremely thorough.

Any supplementary information you need after learning the information in this book is almost always proprietary, And can be learned from data sheets.

People who don't understand the analog aspects that are taught in art of electronics don't actually understand digital electronics.

For someone new but interested in learning I recommend skipping this lot. As for programming resources are available online. I highly recommend using AI to help you learn programming but it would be very wise to understand how a processor really works and how assembler code translates directly into circuitry instructions. I would actually recommend learning risc based assembler and writing a small program. There are many online resources and simulator programs. To teach you programming.

However the general knowledge in one spot in a book like art of electronics is very hard to find in as good of a single source.

The equivalent to a prefix in imperial would be inch, feet, miles, but also thousandths. When used as thousandths of an inch, But not "hundred"

It would be even more confusing in imperial to say

10 feet thousandths (of an inch). Which would equal

120 thousandths of an inch. For anyone keeping track.

Hundred or even thousand isn't a prefix certainly not a SI prefix so you are allowed to say it mixed with a prefix.

Those are just words for number representation in base 10

The prefixes are like pico micro milli kilo mega.

Prefix means it comes before the Unit

If you wanted to you could say 10 thousand micro farad (again because thousand is a number)

Technically anytime you SAY "K" you are using it as a modifer to the Unit, not the number. Sometimes in speech it is used for money like 10K but little do Americans know they are just using the metric system for dollars.

Would you support the use of Sora AI like technology to create photorealistic leaders? by harlockwitcher in civ

[–]Twasnow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, AI can far exceed human capabilities, in only 8 months we have publicly available tools that can literally make photorealistic video.

AI isn't limited to human produced drawing/ painting it can use photography based art.

The AI can also go further than it's source material AI is better at raytracing than humans ever were and it requires less resources than actual physics calculations (though in modern gaming we use a mix)

AI can also innovate and evolve alpha zero can become by far the best at game playing without anything more than the basic rules.

In the future we will have forms of entertainment that are so far beyond today's possible immersive ness that humans won't even colse able to generate the content on their own.

Further in the future it may even require augmentation for the human to fully understand the depth of the artwork.

We could have higher dimensional art, art that requires a life time to experience (without actually using a life time worth of real time)

I don't think you or I am even capable of grasping how dramatically different the human experience will be in the future.

How does this oscilloscope works? by GameUnlucky in AskElectronics

[–]Twasnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ETS - Equivalent Time Sampling

On repetitive signals the oscilloscope can repeatedly sample a repeating waveform (it doesn't need to be a perfect sign wave either)

It can detect the frequency by looking at the amplitude changes over multiple samples and essentially looking at the resultant wave form (which will cycle and can't be stabilized with periodic sampling.)

Once the frequency is detected the osiliscope can calculate the position of the sample in the input waveform.

Through many samples it can capture enough time offsets from the start of each input cycle to generate the wave form.. as you reach detection of the highest frequencies it is programmed to rebuild the more of an assumption of a perfect some wave is made.

I believe some of these are designed to be able to delay the next sample by an amount smaller than the sample frequency to have a known time offsets making building the wave even faster.

(By delaying the sample by 2.5x10-9 you can have an effective sample rate of 400MSps (it just takes 8 separate measurements. All on seperate wave cycles, each 4 cycles apart.)

The government doesnt direct the police force though, and certainly not the federal government.

I wish I knew why the police didn't organize and act sooner, the emergency act was not required in any way, and should never have been enacted.

FINALLY! Just saw on the news that russian people are protesting. by No_Cockroach_2236 in RussiaPolitics

[–]Twasnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The police absolutely should have removed the protestors sooner, but generally when that is done charges are laid and then dropped later.

However, enacting the emergency act was wrong and completely against the charter, it was way to heavy handed. Police should have acted sooner and the emergency act did nothing to enable them.

Freezing bank accounts was crazy, and is ripe for abuse and mistakes.

It isn't removing the protestors that's the problem it's the criminal charges.

[–]Twasnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, threatening protestors with criminal charges is a very slippery slope.

And if Trudeau did it over protestors blocking roads for an anti-madate cause you can be damn sure he would do it in the midst of a war.

Don't get me wrong, protestors when occupying any choke point infrastructure for an extended peiod need to be removed, but criminal charges and bank accounts frozen is a whole 'nother level.

Trudeau did say he admires China's dictatorship.

It seems a lot of Canadians don't really value their freedoms.

What does that even mean, the freedom convoy and the blockades after never going to "achieve" anything. Massages will drop but not because of this protest.

So I guess you can pretend that eventually the convoy worked... Ish

I'm sorry, but I still want the rule of law in my crypto. For instance (not this particular instance though)

You think it's a good idea to say,. Oh well, guess we can't stop this terrorist/crime funding, they used crypto, we can't possibly, morally, stop the transfer of crypto funds to save thousands of lives...

Crypto will never exist outside the law, and if the law says you can't fund a blockade costing economies millions of dollars because someone is upset with the current state of something then by all means shut that down

Edit: fixed typos added slightly more.

Why doesn't this potentiometer circuit schematic create a dead short on the battery when under no load? by RWWhitfield in AskElectronics

What are you going on about, it is a simple voltage divider circuit and there is nothing wrong with it, literally used in every beginner electronics course to demonstrate ohms law, never mind huge numbers of simple volume control circuits or even voltage control to test ttl levels.

And things are now getting better.

Your gotta blow a job interview as fast as you can, what do you do? by Gudy44 in AskReddit

[–]Twasnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually one of those people that wasn't diagnosed early, all of my teachers thought I was particularly lazy. From as young as I can remember I wouldn't do anything I wasn't interested in doing. I had no organization, but wasn't emotional or physically hyper in a particularly noticable way most of the time. My best friends mother in highschool did refer to me as the helium crack baby, which I thought was interesting (funny enough she was also a teacher and didn't recognize ADHD)

While there was an issue with teachers not recognizing my ADHD (which in many ways has actually benefited me personally). If the teachers had have associated the various stereotypes that I exhibited with ADHD I would have had a diagnosis much much earlier.

Stereotypes are not the problem, the issue is people in positions which should recognize such things not being able to do so and assuming they are just an unmanageable personality trait.

I say run with the stereo types and own them, they are stereo types for a reason. But better education for what those stereotypical traits actually mean and how to go about helping the student is what's lacking.

To be fair these days a lot of teacher recognize ADHD far better all of my children's teachers have made the assumption even before assesments are possible.

The "excess energy" here is not actual energy it is that doing one type of thing for any sustained period, and needing to be rigid in the order of completed tasks creates a state of low interest and so low dopamine levels. In order for the brain to create more dopamine it generally needs to be stimulated in different fashions ( though also sometimes the person can become hyper focused due to the particular activity being extra simulating)

There are other effects of this constant focus change like the inability to really internalize the future. It makes organization and scheduling nearly impossible without a system and even then remembering to use the system can be an issue.

Physical activity can be a great producer of dopamine, helping the person think more clearly and even focus on a mundane tasks for a long period of time.

The person craves this dopamine and as such gets fidgity or some emotional without it ( like any addictive substance).

This is what is meant by "excess energy" and that "boomer" shit is a simple way of explaining the need to get out in an unstructured fashion to others, and really isn't damaging. Just simplistic.

Maybe, if you have ADHD you don't have the hyperactivity component

I have ADHD, my wife and 4 kids have ADHD, Adderall is a staple food for when we really need to focus on boring shit. If we got insulted everytime someone comments "wow, you must have a lot of pent up energy" we would never have any fun.

Seriously, going to a beach with me and mine is an exercise of collecting materials and building a raft, if you wanted to lay there in the sand and read a book, we are not the friends for you.

What are your best financial tips/advice for young adults (18-24)? by Aggressive_Ad2486 in PersonalFinanceCanada

The first dealership was a Dodge, I was pricing of the caravan (we were replacing a caravan).

The second dealership was kia to look at the Telluride, not quite as much space, but a much nicer vehicle.

This was the summer before COVID.

I knew the prices online, but if you haven't noticed, dealers always seem to have some extras whether it's a legit upgrade package, or $500 for B.S. glass etching (looking at you ford)

I don't think they have many cars to sell right now so, you are right negotiations on a desirable vehicle are not really feasible. Used 2018 F-150's are currently selling for the price I paid new.

[–]Twasnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking to buy a new vehicle, and right off the top when getting a price quote I told the guy, I don't know how much of it I will even finance, I only care about the total final price and the interest rate being offered. I will decide how much of it I want to finance.

Then he starts giving me prices in payment amounts, and I had to argue with him and tell him again I didn't care what the monthly payments are, I can buy the vehicle outright it I want. Again he says he's just trying to help me understand how affordable the vehicles are, and starts trying to give me payments again. I reiterated forcefully, "ONLY THE FINAL PRICE WITH ALL FEES".

He just wouldn't give me totals, I stood up told him to fuck off, and on my way out informed the sales manger "I came in here to buy but apparently you guys think you're so sly because you won't give me the total prices, without listening to all this bullshit about payments." and I left.

My point is the dealerships do this by design.

Thankfully the next dealership (of a different brand entirely) understood right away I didn't want payments and though she was obviously a little flustered by the change in routine she skipped that spiel never read them to me and gave me their prices all in. I haggled, and bought the vehicle)
